Mai's eyes had been on Harupia as she spoke, looking at him in the eye to ensure his attention was on her. She wasn't sure of his game, if he was playing a game at all, or if her guess had any merit, but she was also watching for any sort of feedback he may have been hiding - she was not skilled in this the slightest, but had always held hope that she could garner some sort of insight from all these social interactions one of these days. If she was going to save the world, she had best be able to read people.
This plan, of course, went out the drain, the moment she was "corrected;" she had not demanded a thing of the fukutaichou, save his attention, and she clearly recalled him introducing himself previously. Her eyes snapped back to Aya as she stumbled over her words, fighting to hold her own tongue back; she meant no disrespect, had always been respectful to any shinigami she'd encountered with the one obvious exception, and the implication that she was demanding anything from the fukutaichou was enough to send Mai spiralling out of control.
Her face blanched as the frustration reddened her cheeks, knuckles following suit as her fists balled within the confines of her garb, head still inclined from confidence lowered slightly, angling to one side in deliberate fashion; her chin trembled, but only just, a byproduct of the dominance she was exerting over her tongue in an attempt to remain as silent as possible, though the thoughts racing through her mind reflected on her face, and while she wasn't about to lash outward, the mood in her eyes suggested so. Mai was trying to be a better person, to be an adult, and acting in such childish ways was not going to get her there; the last time she had done so she was nearly eaten by a monster of a hollow.
Aya was certainly not a hollow, or she would not have been standing before them today. Harupia, whether or not having discerned the subtle changes in the atmosphere, smoothed out the situation quite well; perhaps the second division also offered classes in that?
With her eyes still on Aya's uncomfortable form, Mai listened to Harupia, unconsciously licking her lips from the frustration building inside. She kept them on Aya even as Harupia finished, speaking once he fell silent. "Forgive me my transgressions, Hitoshi-fukutaichou-sama, Nakao-san. I meant no disrespect." As much as she wanted to explain, to correct the both of them for the misunderstanding, she could not; this was not her playing field, yet, and she could not bear the thought of having to lay herself on the line in front of all these people for something so easily misunderstood.
Flush still prominent, she ducked her head in a stiff bow, hoping the apology would not fall upon deaf ears; her head stayed down as Harupia addressed her statement, however it raised slightly at his minor praise. He posited his question, asking about what to do with the leg itself. Mai had done some reading prior to her induction, not that she was given much choice with the situation she found herself in at the time, and had, what she presumed to be, a better idea of what all went on in the medical offices.
"As I said, a gross examination can be done first, to make sure there is nothing visually wrong with it. If no superficial wound is seen, then a more thorough exam can be made. A history must also be taken into account before arriving at a diagnosis, as the patient's age, gender, weight, and familial history are all contributing factors as well as the history of the events that lead to the fall. If the patient is fairly young and healthy as opposed to elderly and somewhat sickly, the situation would not be as dire as the younger individual would have a far greater chance of a simple bruise over a fracture."
She spoke timidly at first, though her voice gained confidence with each word she spoke, recalling what she had read. Other things then came into mind, such as history, as it was important to know all that could have influence so the correct treatment can be given.

Aya paled at the unwanted attention. Harupia was looking at her, correcting her, scolding her. She had spoken out of turn and out of line. A stiffness took hold of her and she fidgeted and fumbled. She hadn't meant for the words to come loose. She had only meant for the insolent Tanaka girl to pay her respects to the vice-captain not because the vice-captain was courteous and respectful towards her, though that helped. No, Aya's intentions were for Harupia to have his respect because he simply deserved his respect. Such was the boon of his title.
And then he had corrected her instead. She had disrespected him by introducing an unwanted order into the situation. She was obeying a code that he did not want or need. Shameful. Shameful, indeed.
"Of... of course," Aya replied weakly, pulling at the cuff of her robe. "Forgiven... of course..." and she trailed off again, hiding in plain sight if it were at all possible. the Tanaka girl wouldn't take her gaze from her. The senior of the two, though not by much, was supposed to show authority, and now Aya was floundering. Where was the established hierarchy here? What should she do?
She should attempt to support Harupia's endeavors to educate. Again, her voice took on a bit of a formal tone as she spoke. She narrated mechanically, "A young patient is also more likely to misjudge their limitations and strain themselves in undue fashion. Adults are more experienced. Wiser. It is also likely that a younger patient will make more of a minor injury. Attempt in such situations to calm the patient in the manner of a parent."
And she realized her grave mistake in the form of words. "I am s-sorry, Miss Tanaka. You have an impressive knowledge for procedure." Somehow, a small smile brought its way to her face. It seemed an unfamiliar expression, but one that Aya retroactively appreciated. Aya liked order, and she especially liked people who enjoyed the order she did.

It seemed that Aya's little intermission caused a bit to large of a rift then it should have. It was quite clear from Mai's expression that she didn't appreciate being reprimanded. He only could wonder if it was to case only to something she was undeserving of, or if she took more constructive criticism with equal distaste. Though she did stay quite and politely apologized, and Aya herself didn't seem to hold that much offense...though she seemed to bit a bit shaken. He guessed that it took a lot of courage for her to speak up like that.
Nodding a bit he would say "I think neither you Mai, nor Aya did anything wrong. It was simply a small misunderstanding. But the apology is appreciated. For future reference, please refer to me by either my name or rank, whichever you are more comfortable with. Were doctors after all, we cant waste to much time on saying good morning to each other" he said with a laugh.
Now, it seemed both Mai and Aya, regardless of their plans, were the center of attention, the two of them sharing viable answers to his question. It was a bit more surprising for Mai since she was on her first day. Aya was more experienced, but it was good to see her show it to the others. Nodding in a pleased manner he said "Excellent answers both of you. If only the rest of our group was a bit more talkative when asked about it" he said rising a brow at the rest, who was now awfully quiet.
He would then say "Alright, now that our patient is fine, and we know how to deal with a person with a wounded leg, we can move further in our tour, unless someone has any additional questions?" he would say looking at the group. He had to think of something interesting for the to deal with, and he wanted to be sure no one was having any significant complaints.

A palpable unease emanated from the shuffling students before Mai. They had been called out on their silence and were now the subject of a minor, albeit playful, scrutiny, and were now feeling the effects of a group failure. They would live, however, and not suffer the consequences for long.
"What are the protocols one must follow?" Mai asked suddenly, shifting her attention from Aya, who had also praised her and earned a small thank-you nod in response, back to Harupia. "Following our man with the injured leg, for example. What would his journey be like from the time he entered the Division to the time he would be treated and then allowed to leave?"
Someone had to ask the questions they were all thinking, and the sooner one understood protocol, the better one would be at her job. The sooner she found out who did what, when, and how, the sooner she could learn it, and maybe, just maybe, get her father off her back.

Aya brightened suddenly a the question. Administration was her job. Well, truth be told, setting bones and sealing wounds was her true job, but honestly, Aya was a fair bit awkward when dealing with a patient. She knew what to do, but actually doing it was far more difficult. She had voiced how to treat a younger patient and the things to watch out for, but the truth was that in her time with the division, she had orchestrated her assignments as best as she could to avoid having to talk to patients directly.
But as to how the division functioned, that was something she saw a fair amount of through paperwork. She had also read the documentation on division procedure more times than she could count. Again, her voice turned to steel and clockwork. "It depends on when the patient is admitted into care and how severe the injury is," Aya began. She looked carefully towards Harupia before continuing. "The nature of the wound may require on-site treatment, which begins care without even being in the division."
"But provided they are well enough for transport, they arrive and, if able, sign the appropriate documentation. If they can not sign because of unconsciousness or some other lacking faculty, we either wait for post-treatment processing or obtain authorization from their superior or relatives." Aya stopped for a moment, letting the information sink in. She thought to herself for a moment. Tell them less about the administrative work and more about the patient's experiences.
Beginning again, she stared directly at a blank wall. "The patient is treated according to severity, but more or less, they rest in the appropriate ward, where we monitor their health. Any minor treatments are also conducted there. Major treatments that require greater Chiyudo resources or non-reiatsu preparation are conducted as is feasible given other patient's care. When the patient has at last been determined by our division that they may return to their duties, the remaining documentation is completed, and they are released."
She looked to Harupia again. Had she forgotten anything? Was her explanation unneeded?
[Took a bit of liberty here. Please PM me if Aya would say something different. I don't think I've read anything on procedure, so I just made things up as I went.]

Not only did Mai have all the answers, she also seemed to have the best questions. That helped to mend the deafening silence coming from the rest. But just as he was to answer the question presented, Aya took the plate from him. Not that he minded really. Seeing her talk like that without stuttering, confident in what she was saying, was a nice change. Perhaps the girl wasn't as shy as he first though...or at least, she had the ability to focus enough to fight of her apprehension when needed. That was good, something well needed for a medic.
As she stopped her lecture he would nod and say "Thank you Aya, that is probably as good of an answer as anyone could give. But yes, that's the main protocol we generally follow. Of course on site medication is something you should be careful with, because as you may imagine, a battlefield or a road in the middle of the city is not the most sanitary space. We usually try to stabilize the patients condition until they can be safely moved to a sanitary unit. Otherwise Nakao-san did give quite a good rundown of how things operate here. You'll of course get into more specific details as time goes on, but for now you probably wont be doing much work without a seated member supervising you actions. So remember, always listen to the numbers, they have a good idea of what their doing" he said with a small smile.
Nodding he would say "So, as Nakao-san mentioned, we take the patients and treat them in the correct wards. Now, there isn't that huge of a choice really. The general ward is open for most cases, and the specific wards are for children, elderly patients and those in critical condition. Again, the last group isn't something you will be dealing with at the beginning of your career, but you'll gt there eventually. Now, since we had a few pop quizzes, Ill lead you through the general ward so you know where to go and what to expect. he said with a breif nod before turning towards Aya saying "Now, I understand you were busy when I took you with me. If you want to return to your duties Ill understand. You have proven quite helpful thus far, for which I am grateful" he would say with a smile. After hearing her decision he would start leading on the new medics froward.

Mai nodded as both medics spoke, keeping silent herself so that she had a better chance of remembering. No one else had any questions, allowing Harupia to address Aya in a somewhat private matter.
Things seemed straightforward enough, Mai surmised as she waited for the tour to move onward.

Aya fidgeted nervously. "I wasn't doing anything important." Lies. Of course, she wanted desperately to get away from here, though she was unconsciously easing into the situation. She wanted to flee from the group that they were attending to. They kept looking at her, expecting her to say something. Now she had set a precedent of being knowledgeable. Oh, what was she to do?
She certainly didn't want to displease Harupia. That was tantamount to self-mutilation for the orderly subordinate. The question was what did he actually want from her? Surely she could still do him some good here, leading these charges, but he had said things as if he wanted her gone. Did he want her gone? Maybe she should.
"There were just the latest out-patient forms to be copied for the archives. I-if I'm needed here..." she started, hoping he would pick up and she wouldn't have to finish.
To be honest, she wanted to see more of the Tanaka girl who had come along.

As Aya replied to him he would say "Well, you not needed right now, but you welcome to join if you have the time. Perhaps you might turn out to know some nook or cranny of the Division I don't know of" he said with a wink. That was a bit unlikely, since he spent a good portion of his life close to the Division, his father making sure he knew everything about the building. But you never know.
With no questions asked, he would move along forward through the door. On their way, they would pass a hallway, in which there were sets of doors leading to patient rooms, and in the middle there was a square hub like area, seperating into 4 such corridors. All was clean, and besides some muffled conversations or coughs and sneezes,it was pretty quiet.
As they moved he would say "Once the patient has signed has papers and is in need of hospitalization, you go the the nearest reception to acquire an empty room number and go there. The rooms vary in size, from 4 people to single rooms, depending on the condition of the patient. Just a fair warning... If you get caught taking bribes for better rooms, or for anything...you gonna have a bad time "he said in a stern voice turning to them suddenly, but then added with a smile "But don't worry, some flowers or chocolate after treatment wont be considered a bribe. Usually". He just wanted to keep them on the edge a bit...and he was rather serious about money bribes. Those were bad wherever you were.
As they reach the central point, which was a bit more busy. Various citizens, Shinigami, patients were walking, chatting, relaxing a bit. He would say "This is,as you can see, the center of this ward. Here we have room for spare beds in dire situations, and also the reception for keys to the room's. You can also sit here and take a break if you wish, but be careful for patients who sneak out of rooms without permission. Now, a small orientation query: which way is closes to the child ward?" he would ask, once again turning to the gathered crowd.

Like the rest of the herd, Mai followed Harupia back into the hallway and toward a new location, presumably where they had been headed before she had bitten her tongue. She had already been completely lost before the detour, and now she was utterly baffled. Her face resumed that irritated, haughty look she had before.
In short, Tanaka Mai did not have a clue where she was.

Aya panicked. What if she did know some place that Harupia didn't know? It was unlikely, but if she did and had to say so, that would be bad. She didn't want to be put in a position of correcting a captain even if it wasn't actually going to happen. "I hardly th-think I would," she stuttered out. "So, I think I'll t-take my leave." As Harupia continued to lead Mai, Aya would turn tail and flee from the encounter.

Aya exited as per the activity rules. [ link] Points will be halved upon thread completion. Did what I could with the personality type displayed, hope I wasn't too far off for the situation.

He was a bit surprised to see Aya run of, but he simply shook his head in a bemused manner. He guessed he overloaded her capacity for interactions with people. Chuckling a bit he would say "Well then, seems like your stuck with me now. Carry on now..." he said, leading the group on their merry way. With luck the tour would go on uneventful from that point. He didn't want to scare the new people. To much at least

Following Harupia's lead, as though she had a choice in the matter, Mai moved onward, determined to commit this godforsaken maze to memory. After she had memorized the area, which may take some time, she would investigate the halls and find where that Aya girl had gone...perhaps she could get swapped to a new group or something, get away from that kid who shoved her.
But first, orientation.
