[[skipping rip because i don't think it's fair to have him exited when he doesn't have much to go off to come up with a post]]
While Aya proposed the treatment plan, Mai gestured toward the other medic to shift Brain from the gurney to the bed; perhaps it wasn't necessary, but having a patient on a surface that wasn't properly tethered could cause needless hassle and unwelcome bumping. She moved to the head of the gurney so as to grasp the corners of the fabric into her fists, waiting for the taller male to do the same at the foot. On the count of three, both medics heaved and very carefully, shifted the blanket from the cold, metal slab to the slightly warmer, and much softer, down mattress. If the man was losing enough blood to pass out, then the coldness would only expedite his death.
Once Brain was on the table, Mai pushed the gurney out of the way so that Harupia could approach and investigate the wound. She kept to his side, across the bed from where the other medic stood, leaving easy access to either of Brain's arms for Aya to place the needle so the intravenous solution could be administered quickly. With one last glance to the patient's face, she stepped into Harupia's space and sidled up to his side, ensuring that her reach would not entirely overreach the taichou's or needlessly expend what little reiatsu she could muster. "Um, pardon me," she murmured as her reach invaded Harupia's space, apologizing for both whatever contact she may have created and the invasion.
With her hands where they needed to be, hovering just over his, the weary Tanaka channeled her Reiatsu slowly, barely eking out enough to bathe Harupia's hands; the blonde across the way from her, however, was fresh, and he managed to supply enough to make up for what she lacked. As Harupia focused on the task of repairing the wound, Mai allowed herself to visually monitor the patient. His breathing had slowed, pinkness fading from what she could see of his cheeks. Ignoring the occasional bump her hands made against Harupia's due to her weariness (and inattention), Mai watched as the life slowly tried to drain from Brain's face.
[[second note: dect has requested that we allow Brain to die, so uh, this is the start of that.]]

She looked as if she had just battled in hell and returned. Her hair was down and out of her face, exposing the scar on her cheek. She didn’t bother to put her fukutaichou badge on, so her tattoo of rebel was exposed as well. She didn’t care about any of it. There was one thing she cared about…the only thing she ever cared about.
Her eyes were forward as she ran, not stopping for anyone or anything. She pushed her legs as fast as they would go; ignoring the pain of sharp objects she stepped on, seeing as she hadn’t bothered putting on shoes either. Her eyes were focused into a glare, glaring at nothing…but everything. It was the only way to keep the worry and fear off her face.
A small creature ran behind her, its small panting heard barely over Arashi’s feet slapping the cold ground. Several people tried to talk to her, but she just continued to run. She couldn’t focus on anything else. She needed to make sure he was ok.
Sweat poured from her forehead, she had been running for god knows how long. She finally approached the infirmary. It was…chaos. She looked around, so many familiar faces…but she knew where the man she needed was. She continued her running, approaching his room.
A shaky hand hovered over the door handle. She stared at her hand. It was shaking bad. Her eyes started to water a little. Why was she so worried? The old man could handle himself. Within her mind, she knew why she worried about him so much…but it was something she’d never admit. At least, to herself.
She opened the door slowly, revealing her captain. She didn’t want to enter the room, but…she did. It was empty; she figured they had already taken care of Malik. She figured Malik would be the first they rushed to. Being the Soutaichou and all…and his daughter…
Arashi stepped up to his bedside. Her breathing was heavy and sweat still poured off her face. He looked so peaceful. Arashi’s eyes watered. It wasn’t sadness, but relief. He looked ok. He looked hurt…but ok. Her whole body shook with the adrenaline rush.
This always happened. This ALWAYS happened! Arashi cursed herself. So many shinigami were injured and there she stood, fine and dandy, beside her captain. Was she really in the right rank? Did she really deserve to be the fukutaichou of such a great man? She pulled a chair up beside Malik. Her heart raced as she stared at his face…the thought she hated to think. What if this had killed him? Would she be ready to take his place? Be in control of all those shinigami…
Did she really have soutaichou capabilities?
She couldn’t even stand beside her captain in battle, she was too busy filling out paper work for him. Deci climbed up Arashi’s leg and jumped onto Malik’s bed. His ferret eyes analyzed Malik carefully then looked up at Arashi. Arashi’s bottom lip shook as she watched her ferret.
”You can’t mess with him right now, Deci.” She told the ferret that so often enjoyed making Malik’s life a living hell. ”He isn’t well.” She looked up at her captain, sighing heavily.
She didn’t want to leave his bedside. Perhaps she’d sit there a moment more, then find Harupia or Mai and offer her services. She was no medic, but perhaps she could calm some frightened shinigami’s down? Gather some food or water for the medics and patients? She could do something other than stand by all these hurt shinigami and hate herself for not being in the infirmary with them. She would stay with Malik…for just a moment longer.

Surprised at Harupia's request for her to mix the solution, Aya momentarily froze. He had said one of them to do it, but with Mai the better with Chiyudo, he couldn't have possible been referring to her. She was needed to cleanse it. So, was Harupia singling out Aya with that request? What was that supposed to mean anyway? She knew more than the textbook answers. She had read countless research papers and tried her hardest to find the answers few used just in case a situation like this arose. She wanted to be the useful one for a change.
And now that she was useful, the idea terrified her.
"O-of course, sir," she mumbled, moving in a daze. There wasn't lab equipment on hand to mix the proper saline infusion nor was there time to go to a nearby lab to create it. Normal saline intravenous solution was at most 1% sodium chloride, an approximation of the salinity of the blood found in humans and shinigami alike. Hypertonic saline solution ranged upwards to 3% sodium chloride, which didn't seem like much, but the excess sodium went a long way in that solution.
Aya fumbled with some saline bags in the cupboard. This one was a normal saline bag. This one too. She floundered in indecision. They could certainly be used, but with the amount of blood loss the patient had suffered, internal hemorrhaging would soon mean internal clotting and arterial blockage. That would mean blood pressure would rise and ultimately rupture further. Aya needed to stimulate the movement of blood through the circulatory system with the solution, but none of these were the new type! Frustration built in her face, worry lines deepening and tears coming to her eyes. Useful! You have to be useful!
And then, there it was, a single hypertonic saline solution, marked 2.8% salt. Aya took it like a life raft, hoping it might serve a similar purpose for Brain on the table. She hung it from the railing near the gurney, running the draw of the bag down towards the patient. The needle at the end was the part she had left to take care of.
Easy now.
Training kicked in. Find a vein that wasn't suffering rupture with Chiyudo. That much she could do. Stay out of the way of her fellow medics. There it was. Gently insert the needle and prompt the drip using Chiyudo as well.
But there was no telling if it would be enough. He had lost so much blood, and it was still coming, washing onto Aya's hands even as she applied the IV. She stared at it in part horror and part distanced and morbid intrigue. This was the source of the life on the table on her hands, and if he died, which seemed objectively likely, she'd still have it there, coagulating, coating it there.
She felt like a killer then. She wanted to cry. She didn't, though. A tiny "ulp" came to her throat, the first sign of a compulsion to vomit, an act which she fought with all her being. She chose then to look up, a horrible mistake.
For with that, she saw light fade from Brain's eyes.

In retrospect, perhaps the way Harupia phrased his request wasn’t quite the best, as he did mean for Aya to prepare the needed solution. She was the one who proposed the idea after all, so it was safe to assume she knew the proper preparation. Of course, for all intents and purposes that was a daunting task on its own, given they had little time, and couldn’t prepare it to full effectiveness outside of the laboratory. Still, he knew as soon as he came closer there wasn’t time for to spare here. The wounds were bad, worse than he suspected. It was odd...they looked like they were patched up before he came here, but then for some reason they were torn apart again by some sudden movement, as if he was resisting something or someone... but he couldn’t think about the cause now. He needed to try and do his best to salvage the wounds. He focused the energy he had into the most damaged spots, trying to rebuild the tissue as soon as possible, while he guided the hands of the other medics either by nodding his head or just simply twitching his finger over to the place he wanted more sustained healing over as he moved to other wounds. Of course he bumped not a few hands along the procedure, including Mai's, but that was of little concern really. It was welcomed in a sense...feeling the warm Reiatsu of a healer was a much more soothing feel then the skin of a heavily wounded men...it helped him focus. Still, as he worked on the body, he could see that time was running out. The blood was still flowing, even as they patched the wounds. And quick glances up to see the men's face, and the feeling of his pulse as he applied his Chiduyo was fading quickly...Another familiar face on his table, so calm, so pale...There must have been a chance, if they all did it ri...And then it happened...just before the tip of the needle priced through Brain's skin... Just what they needed to boost their morale even further. With a heavy sigh Haru would rise his hands from the body as he said "We lost him...he lost to much blood before he got here...for some reason his wounds were reopened after their initial treatment... Aya, Mai, please check up on our friend from the Rukongai here, just in case he has any not entirely obvious wounds...the rest of you, I want to hear what happened with this man before I came here. And I want to hear everything". His tone and facial expression was as serious as one could imagine the cheery doctor heaving, and then some, as he addressed the doctors who brought Brain into the room. He didn’t mean any ill will commanding the girls like that, he just wanted to make it clear they weren’t his focus right now. He knew that whatever happened to Brain, it was before they even had a chance to help him. And while he didn’t like accusing any of his colleagues, he wouldn’t let a potential life costing error slip past him so easily. In the meantime, the medic who informed Harupia about the issue with Brain, a slightly overweight male with brown hair took a small break as the head doctor headed on his way, going to grab a glass of water or two before he would return to check up on Malik-sama. He was sure no one would bother to go into the room...and he soon saw he was clearly mistaken, with a red-haired women sitting by the Taicho bedside. Rising his voice he said "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE! YOU'RE...you're distrubing the Sou-Taicho's rest. You shouldnt be in here!" he said, lowring his voice quickly, not wanting to distrub Tanaka-san even more. He wasnt sure who this women was, but he didint want to get in trouble because someone walked in while he was taking a short break. Though the Shinigami did look familiar... though that really matter that much.He just hoped she would get out without much of a fuss. Spoiler BY request, Brain is now Decased. So yes, in Memoriam x.x

It was all over much faster than he expected. He was in shock. He had seen people die before; he lived in the 4th. But this man, he had seemed so determined to live; to get his report in. He had said so himself.
Rip looked down at the bag in his hands. In the end it was that precious report that killed him. He had overheard what the head doctor had said; his wounds had reopened after arriving. When he had tried so hard to hang onto his satchel. Rip opened the bag and fingered through the various papers within. He didn't read any; not his place. Nor did he remove them. Just... glanced at their edges as he pushed them around the interior.
He slowly looked back up, vaguely aware that the others were still in the room. If any of them came to check on him he ignored them, instead focusing on the man in charge, "He mentioned a name. Before he collapsed." He paused as he tried to remember. The man had mumbled and Rip struggled to recall it, "Sako... Sakokui? Kur-something. Sorry... His family? Or a superior?"
It may not have been helpful, but it was the last thing the man said before losing consciousness. Whoever this person was, they were clearly important. At least to the dead man before him. Rip resolved to find them, and if they were his superior he would pass on those reports the man was so determined to turn in. It was only decent.

Mindlessly, or nearly so, Mai followed Harupia’s requests to the best of her ability, standing next to him, almost using him as a support so she didn’t have to use the energy to stand; she had so little left. The adrenaline had helped, but that was wearing down now, just as well that the man was dying. Dying from her hand. Again.
Rationally, like before, she knew it wasn’t her fault, tearing her eyes off the dying man’s face and back to her hands, fighting off the scourge of tears threatening to fall, just in time to move a little to the left, no, down a little more, right there, good!. Her mind went back to that moment a few months ago, the little girl with the damaged eye, and how she had felt when that last pulse had fluttered out of existence; she hadn’t known it then, hadn’t realized it for what it was. But it had plagued her overnight, and for the next several weeks, until it committed itself to her memory; she had hoped to never feel it again.
Her wish did not come true, and even with this meager flow of reiatsu, she could feel that one final push, and then...nothing. Tanaka Mai stood dumbfounded by Harupia’s side, only drawing back once he did. She took half a step back, just to clear herself from colliding into him as she turned around; she hesitated for a moment before fully leaving, watching his face, noting how it made her heart ache. The tone he used was one she had rarely heard, the no-nonsense Taichou-voice she most often heard from her father. Harupia had made it clear that she was not a priority, and she could understand that: a seated officer of the Third Division had died in his care, after all, and he had to find out why. In his shoes, Mai supposed, she would have done the same. Concerned, she reached upward as she passed behind him, stopping only long enough to offer Harupia a reassuring clasp on the shoulder; it wasn’t the same as the hug he had given her those few months ago, but it was a start. She continued on, letting her arm slide wearily down off his shoulder, as though she couldn’t bear to lift it completely off.
She came to a halt beside the Rukon, throat suddenly feeling as though it was assaulted with the coarsest sandpaper imaginable. The muscles constricted tightly as she tried to speak, to express her condolences to his loss. He appeared to be indifferent to her exam, though she didn’t try too hard to make him comply, to assist her hands floating over him with a verbal history. He appeared to be in fine health and uninjured, except for the shell shock. Mai couldn’t tell much, however, due to her now-depleted reserves, no doubt blocked off from the trauma of the situation–if he was severely injured in any capacity, even her meager attempt would have found tell of it; perhaps Aya had found more.
She turned away from the shorter man, returning her attention to the medic who had brought Brain in from the field. He had just finished telling the Taichou that they found Brain outside the gate, discussing something (they didn’t know what) with the man also in the room. “He approached us, kind of barely hanging on by a thread. I don’t know if he was out of it or what he was trying to do, but he stumbled into us and we had to lay him on the gurney. We then applied a salve to numb the wound, to protect it from the rough ride, and enough chiyudo to staunch the bleeding. We had to strap him into the gurney, as protocol mandates, but we made sure that there were no obvious wounds beneath the restraints, sir.” The blonde man took a moment to lick his lips, aware of the scrutiny upon him, before continuing. “This man,” he gestured toward Rip, “did not know what had happened to him, though we can assume he was involved in the invasion yesterday.”
Yesterday?! Was it really that long ago?! Yes, I suppose it was....[/color] Mai thought, eyes dancing from Rip, to Harupia, to the other medic, watching. No wonder she was so tired...she had been going nonstop for almost an entire day, if not longer. When had she last eaten? As if to answer, her stomach gave a low rumble, protesting despite the situation.
“When we arrived, we came into Room Seven, here, and attempted to remove the man’s bag from his person. He...he twisted and sat partway up to keep it on him, Sir, lurching across himself and destroying all that we had done to help him.” Tears welled up in his eyes at this revelation, and the blonde man took moment to regain his composure. When he spoke again, his voice was barely above that of a whisper. “The other one, the one I sent to get you, sir, just...just let it happen.... I...I took the bag, sir, after explaining that it was standard procedure, and that we could not allow personal effects on a person while we were caring for it. He did not want to relinquish it, but I...I took it, sir, and gave it to the man before you. The patient...the patient then fainted sir.” The blonde man’s head drooped down as he tried to hide his tears from everyone; he had meant well, he truly did, but like the rest of them, he, too, was also thinking that he had caused this young man’s early demise.
The Rukon then spoke up, startling Mai. “Saikokui Kurisuna-sama,” she murmured, her gaze set upon the Rukon’s face. The Third Division’s Taichou. Her father’s long-time friend. “I...if you would like, onii-san, I can take you there,” she said, speaking up. That’s where Chie was supposed to be...word of this severe of an injury to her father should be delivered in person, not by some impartial runner. Her father would like it, if Chie were to come. The were somewhat estranged, but hopefully she could at least come check in on him. “I have a message for...for my sister, and I....” While she did not say it, as it wasn’t her place, she glanced back to Harupia, looking for either an affirmation that she could deliver the news (she didn’t want to, but if he asked her to, she would) of Brain’s death to the Division, or a dismissal, that he would deliver it himself. “Would not mind you to tag along.”

In any other situation, Arashi would have stood up and ripped that man a new one but...right now she didn't have the emotional energy...
Arashi winced as the man yelled at her. She spun around in her chair, wanting to leap across the room and cover the man's mouth. In a hushed tone, she began to speak to the man. "Please, be quiet!" She tried to sound stern but her voice came out as a pitiful whimper. "I don't want Malik...er..." She really had to stop calling him by his first name...
"I don't want Tanaka-Soutaichou to awake because of my mistake. I..." Her voice squeaked, earning an irritated sigh. She wanted nothing more than to go back to her quarters and cry, tear up the paper work she had just worked so hard on for the man in the hospital.
”I am Arashi Shinku, his fukutaichou. I promise you I didn’t disturb him, I just…I needed to make sure he was ok.” She looked back at the Soutaichou.
Why did she need to make sure he was ok? She knew why…Malik Tanaka, as pitiful as it was, was Arashi’s reason…for everything. Arashi endured her father’s training because she wanted to be strong enough to stand alongside Malik, Arashi joined the Gotei because she idolized the man so much, she purposely worked hard to be put in the first division so she could live her dream of standing beside Malik Tanaka…he was her only friend. That is why she was so scared; she wasn’t scared of him leaving her to become Soutaichou…
She was scared of losing the only person she truly cared for…
And even though she now was Malik’s fukutaichou, she felt so empty inside. She should be beside him…in a bed as well. She didn’t stand beside her captain at all…she didn’t stand beside any of her fellow shinigami…she just did paper work. She was…worthless.
She felt a tear fall down her cheek. She could feel it slide over the scar on her cheek. Even her own father abandoned her because she was so…completely worthless. Even now, she sat beside her captain…not able to stand up and help Harupia or Mai. Mai…
What must Mai be going through right now? Her father is hurt and she doesn’t get to sit beside him, she must instead work her hardest to ensure that the others are ok. Should Arashi go find Harupia and Mai? Offer her services? Or will she just get in the way…like usual.
She finally turned to look back at the man. ”Is there any food or water near-by? The least I can do is make sure all the medics are in good health…the last thing needed right now is one of them to fall ill.

Aya was not used to death. It seemed faraway, like a star in the sky, something she'd been told about when she was younger, meaningless for her everyday existence. Yet here she was, staring this strange concept in the metaphorical face. The lights around her, glowing subtly against the warm but thick blanket of summer night, seemed to grow brighter and brighter until she could only see her hands. Was Harupia saying something? She couldn't make it out. A frustrated look swept across her face as she stared into blinding lights.
Like a child, she raised a hand before her, exposing the blood. It was strange to see something that had only minutes before been so warm now cold and stiff on her palms. She felt a sensation running across her cheeks and then a tickling on her chin, the pooling of tears that snuck their way past her shock. She wasn't even aware of that feeling now or what was happening around her. She saw the world distanced, like a ghost floating around the room. She could just pass through the wall and flee the scene, but of course, her conscious mind surpressed that notion.
'Here. Now. There is death.' Aya was vaguely aware of the thought floating into her consciousness. It stemmed not from her, but from something deeper and with far more years than she. Wani was speaking to her in the manner of a mother, a strange tone that the Nakao child- for she felt no longer a grown woman- had never heard her use before. Always Wani's demeanor had been one of immense apathy, disregard for the pitiful creatures that tapped her immense power.
And she continued to speak, her voice gentle, comforting. Aya wondered if she would ever hear the massive lizard speak this way again. 'Death is a fact of this world, child, a burden you do not deserve to bear. I have given you my strength previously so that you might shoulder it, but you must decide to use that strength. Continue, and rest will come.'
Aya nodded, and then she felt renewed vigor return to her limbs and senses. The lights dimmed just as the medic was speaking to Mai. "I heard him just before the invasion started. He came from beyond the second district," Aya said. She remembered being the first responder at the time. Briefly, the thought of Shizua Miroku's well-being crossed her mind, but now wasn't the time for that.
Something urged Aya to stop Mai before she decided to leave. A vast river of energy had been tapped from Wani for Aya to use, and with that strength, so too had come the maternal instincts of the lizard guardian. Those of Wani's kind, the crocodilian spirits, were by nature extremely protective of their young, and Aya had come to see Mai very much as a compatriot in the last several hours. The poor girl's father had been wounded in battle and then returned by Aya's own hand. Aya had informed the younger girl of her father's condition, as well, and they had, together, stabilized his condition.
Without even realizing what was happening, Aya stepped out from behind the gurney-turned-temporary-morgue-slab and put a hand on Mai's shoulder, the one not covered in a dead man's blood. Firmly, comfortingly, in a tone Aya would later not be able to willfully reproduce and in a voice that was not truly her own, she spoke softly, "Isn't this enough for now? Tanaka Malik will live through the night long enough for you to rest. If you were to grow ill because you worked yourself too hard, how would he feel?" It wasn't really Aya speaking. It was the mother lizard within, but as Aya felt the words leave her mouth, tasting warm and yet bitter, she hoped the Mai would at least have some sense.
Her eyes glanced over at Harupia. They needed to rest. All of them needed to rest. "I will oversee proper documentation through the Third Division, however incident reports are strictly their concern, sir." Aya's words to Harupia conveyed a fierceness, a protective instinct. She had decided this was over, and while she would take responsibility in assuring proper information was distributed, that would be at a later time. No one that was not already being seen by the others of the division was dying. The one who had been was already past salvation.
Aya's hand remained on Mai's shoulder, not tight or painful, but firm in the hopes that the girl would understand that her elder was worried for her well-being.

Haru listened intently to the medics story, feeling a slight shiver come move across his back as he felt Mai’s hand gently rest against his shoulders. It was a very brief touch compared to the go he offered when after the death of the Rukongai girl, but it was reassuring in a way. It made him feel a bit better, knowing that she wasn’t mad for his sudden shift to attitude. Of course he couldn’t afford her feelings effect the way he worked, but still, he couldn’t help but to care about what the younger Tanaka thought…and he was still quite worried about how she would deal with another death of a patient. Even if she barely did anything, the guilt was always there ready to haunt them. Adding the factor of exhaustion could make the mind susceptible to trauma.
But for now, it all looked as well as I could, both Mai and Aya taking care of the Rukongai citizen, though Aya seemed to be more worried about Mai’s wellbeing… and seemed to grow a bit more lively after the initial shock. That was a good sign, being able to collect oneself in a situation like this. It was a skill some medics needed a long time to learn. The light hairdo medic explaining the whole ordeal had taken the death rather hard as well…the other ones were looking just as uncomfortable, though none of them spoke to interrupt the blonde males report. As he spoke, his gaze softened as well slightly. And the words of the Rukongai citizen also added in to the story. So Brain was carrying some documents to Kurisuna-san, and got wounded along the way. What did this documents contain and how he got wounded were secondary issues… at least for now.
Stepping closer, he would gently pat the sobbing blonde medic on the shoulder saying “Now, now, its ok friend. Seeing a men’s death is never a pleasant thing…especially if you did everything you could to save him. And I have no doubts now that you did. You did try to take the documents in a somewhat unfortunate manner, making sure the patient was sedated before taking them away… However I understand you were in a rush to make sure his wounds were properly tended to. Mistakes happen to the best of us, especially in a crisis like this. I don’t want you, or anyone else in this room blaming themselves for this death. This will not serve anyone. Remember what happened here, reflect and learn upon it, and make sure to not do the same mistakes which happened here. We are here to save as much lives as we can…as long as I can see you all striving to do just that, then you’ll always have me on your side” he said , a small smile gracing his lips again. As far as he could tell there were no glaring mistakes or mishandlings done here. Perhaps Kurisuna-san’s opinion could differ on the matter…but he would deal with that when he needed to.
Which still left the case of the lost documents still. He was pretty sure Kurisuna-san would want to see them. And it was the least they could do to hour Brain’s death. Still, he didn’t feel quite comfortable sending Mai alone to get the documents to the Division. Even if she weren’t exhausted, carrying such news to another Taicho was quite a stressful endeavor. Before he could comment though, Aya stepped in, taking the reins of the situation, or at least attempting to. While it was surprising to see her so forward, it was hard to disagree with what she was saying. It seemed the patients were all in stable condition, as far as they know. And some of them were on their feet over a day. With a slight yawn he would say “First thing’s first…take out fallen comrade to the morgue, he had earned his rest now…after that I want to see all of you get some rest, you’ve earned it” he said with the medics who were with Brain from the start.
Once they left the room he would turn to the two girls and boy inside and say “As for the message…quite frankly, I would like to see all three of you get some rest. While Aya’s comment was true, the fact that she was wounded before coming here makes her fall into the same category, hehe. And as for you, whatever you name might be good sir” he said turning quickly to Rip “while you do seem to be in good shape, I think a quick rest would do you well. After that I can escort both you and Mai-san towards the 3rd Division headquarters if that is your wish. But I do believe that for the benefit of us all, a rest would be well needed” he concluded, rising his hand to wipe his eyes slightly. Not a healthy habit, but at this point, he was starting to get a bit loopy. They all needed to rest. And while he didn’t want to say it out loud, he didn’t think the information Brain had were worth getting sick over…much less dying for. If that was the case, he was sure someone from the 3rd would already be there to take them. But for now he awaited what the other three said.
At the same time, the brown hairdo medic was confronted with the Fukutaicho of the 1st division…and he screamed at her…that was just great. Luckily, she seemed to be just as tired as everyone else…And she didn’t seem to be causing any problems. He assume she had to be a good friend of the Taicho…se he guessed leaving her here wouldn’t hurt. As she asked for the food and drink, he was slightly taken aback before saying “Well, the cafeteria Is not far from here…but right now things are starting to calm down…everyone has been taken care of…Besides Tanaka-Taicho there were a few critical cases, one of the supervised by Hitoashi- Taicho…things are kind of slowing down now. The best we can do is rest and wait for the wounds to heal, heh. But thanks for the offer. It’s a good thing you didn’t end up in out care, hehe. I’m sure Tanaka-san will get better much faster with a member of his own Division by his side. Do you need anything perhaps, Fukutaicho-san? Some water, maybe something to eat?” he concluded, taking a sip of the water he took earlier. He would stay for a while to make sure everything was fine

A fish out of water.
An apt statement, considering the current situation. He didn't belong there, and that could not have been more clear when looking at the others' reactions. Rip felt bad that Brain had died; he even felt partly responsible. But he was a Rukon Citizen, and he spent his days living in the Fourth. He looked at death pragmatically. Once the initial shock wore off.
Now all that was left was a duty to the departed; he had a name, and a satchel. He would see the latter delivered to the former. And he would do it personally.
One of the shinigami spoke to him. The young one, with white hair. There was something familiar about her... the white of her hair. He had met another young woman, far more frail and timid, with matching hair. She had been interesting, and he had hoped to meet her again. "I -" he began, but was cut off by the other female shinigami. She was, as far as Rip could tell, contradicting the offer White-Hair had made, suggesting instead she rest. He looked at them all closer then; they were exhausted. Dead on their feet. And yet, they were still ready to soldier on. To provide aid. His respect for them jumped drastically.
Then the Taicho was speaking. He was suggesting they all get some rest. At the mention of his name hip offered, "Um... Rip." But otherwise did not interrupt. He did not completely agree, as he was well rested and more than ready to leave the medical division. But he did not argue. He didn't know his way around, nor did he know how he would be greeted without an escort. And what better an escort could one ask for than a Taicho?
"An escort would be appreciated. I guess I'll wait around until you're ready to leave."

The Tanaka flinched as Aya's firm grip came to rest upon her shoulder; the move had startled Mai, not only because she hadn't been paying attention to the other female's whereabouts, but because it was so unexpected for shy Aya to even make such a connective gesture. In between the comings and goings of all the words, the conversation’s somber tones whipping back and forth in discussion as to who would do what, while the body lay between them all, beginning the slow process of rotting from the inside out. She watched as the blonde man, humbled and reduced to tears, graciously agreed with Harupia before embarking on his next task; the body left the room, and while Harupia made to approach the group, Mai looked up at Aya, eyes too dry for tears.
"Isn't this enough for now? Tanaka Malik will live through the night long enough for you to rest. If you were to grow ill because you worked yourself too hard, how would he feel?"
“I...” she began, then lowered her gaze, redirecting it elsewhere as she reflected internally. She wasn’t sure how he would feel. Surely, some part of him would be proud of her, that she had worked herself to the point of illness. And that same part would be ashamed of her if she were to quit now, wouldn’t it? This wasn’t her first time around the block, not her first time as a responder in a time of crisis – just a few months ago, she had her first pallid taste of death. Even then, she realized, that she had been forced to rest at Harupia’s command. If she were to disobey this second one, her father would be disappointed in her.
But it’s not like he wouldn’t do the same if the positions were reversed; no, he’d be out there tooth and nail, as is his way. “You’re right,” she said at last, returning her gaze to Aya, though she didn’t necessarily feel that it was the right decision. “But my sister should be told. Sooner, rather than later,” she added, directing her gaze to Harupia. Mai was adamant that this task be done as soon as possible, and while the walk would prove to be exhausting, it would also be refreshing; while they had been dealing with Malik and Brain, the rest of the Division would have been busy triaging the rest of the wounded, and the pathways scattered throughout the city would be less stifling.
She could rest after she talked to Chie. The Tanaka Estate wasn’t far from the Third Division. After she talked to Chie, told her about their father, the younger could make her way home and rest there. Rest wasn’t the term she would use...perhaps she’d break down and cry in the privacy of her own home, with her stoic companion by her side, comforting her with his green-eyed gaze. Perhaps, she mused, watching Harupia wipe the grime from the underside of his eyes, she could offer him a spot on the couch as well. “I can rest after,” she said before the unwelcome rumble of her stomach stole her thunder.
Meekly, she murmured, “I could eat first....”
Before I pass out....

but right now things are starting to calm down
It really didn’t mean anything to Arashi, she just wanted to help. Do something. Be a part of this somehow…Just because it’s calmed down didn’t mean that they weren’t tired or hungry. From the looks of it, they had…have…their hands full.
It’s a good thing you didn’t end up in our care, hehe.
Arashi’s breath caught in her throat. Good thing?! She placed her palm on her chest and turned back to face Malik, resting her forehead slightly on his arm. Good thing?! She should be here! Instead of him! She should have protected him! She should have been there, fighting alongside him! Her breathing was ragged, as if she were struggling to inhale and her eyes slightly watered. Times like this she wondered if she had Asthma.
Come on, Arashi. Breathe! BREATHE! You know he didn’t mean it like that. Breathe, damn it. Or you will end up in their care!
Finally, she inhaled sharply. She sounded as if she had been under water and had just gotten that first gulp of air to fill her lungs. It’s what she felt like. She panted heavily and she could hear her heart racing frantically inside her head. What the hell had just happened? She could feel her hands shaking. She had barely heard the words the man had said that calmed her down…
Tanaka-san…better…faster… his Division by his side.
She slowly nodded her head still on his arm. Her ferret’s eyes were wide as it stared at Arashi. Deci wasn’t sure to be worried or amused. It curled up under Arashi’s head and pushed his back up against her nose. Arashi inhaled sharply and suddenly her heart rate slowed and her hands stopped shaking. One arm reached up to softly stroke the ferret’s small head.
”I’m not your captain or anything, so you don’t have to treat these like orders but…I’ll watch Tanaka-soutaichou and call for help if anything happens.” She raised her head and took another deep breath in. She could feel her muscles relaxing, she still had no idea what had just happened. ”It would be…a great relief if you made sure Mai Tanaka-san was ok…I know she’s not hurt or anything…I just…And make sure you get something to eat. Adrenaline is probably all that’s holding you on your feet right now, along with the others. And make sure she’s ok…with me being here with her father. I know I am not family, so I don’t want to over step my lines here. And it wouldn’t hurt if you got her something to eat and drink as well…she is probably ready to pass out with all this going on. And…make sure…”
Sheesh…I’m sounding like an overly protective parent…why am I so worried about her?
”If she is busy…do not bother her but…if she isn’t…it’d be a huge relief for me if someone were looking out for her. This way I can stay with my captain…Like I said, you don’t have to…but I would sure appreciate it.”

Wani's influence over her host's personality waned, but it did not yet leave Aya. Her hand's grip lessened, and for a moment, Aya fought the urge to pull the younger girl into an embrace. Mai still wanted to continue onwards, to talk to her sister. Family you could go to when times grew painful. That was a notion Aya only vaguely understood. Her mother was dead. Her grandmother was dead as well. She did not know who her father was, and thus, only Wani, the maternal link in her heritage, remained. Mai had Tanaka Chie, an elder sister, a woman whom Aya knew nothing about, but internally, Aya hoped Chie was going to be better at reassuring than she was.
Even so, Mai's soft voice echoed some desire that undermined seeking her sister. Food. That was a fine idea to Aya. The Tanaka estate was on the far northeast end of Soul Society. It would be an impressive trek in their condition, and both Aya and Mai were barely standing. That was no condition to make the walk to Mai's estate. Of course, Aya had no intention of inviting herself to the other girl's house, but she hoped Mai would invite her rather than continue alone. It seemed that Mai was better with friends right now than by herself.
Friends. That was a strange thought to Aya. Had she just assumed herself to be someone else's friend? She scolded herself internally. That wasn't her place to decide. Still, if she were a friend, another idea crossed her mind. "I h-have food I can prepare at my home," she said, her tones quickly losing the authority Wani had loaned her temporarily. "The Tanaka estate is... a long way, a-and the cafeteria's no good for a-anyone here right now."
'Speak your mind, girl. They will listen.'
"We could all use the rest," she continued, staring at Harupia now. "A-and I mean no disrespect, Captain Hitoshi, but you should rest as well. We..." she stopped. She didn't want to continue. The words muddled in her mouth, made it hard to breathe. The idea was already so insurmountably insane that she couldn't wrap her mind around it, and yet finally, the words came out. "We have already lost Vice-captain Hasegawa and Vice-Captain Natsukoi and Captains Shuchiku and Tachibana stepped down. W-we don't need authority stretched any more thin."
Yeah, they could all go back to Aya's home; they would have an opportunity to get clean and eat. Then the challenges of Mai talking to and consoling Chie as well as tending to other patients for Harupia and Aya would be simpler.
"I-is that alright with you?" she mumbled to the both of them.

Hmm...so many thoughts, and just one head...at least the fellow calling himself Rip was agreeable. Now he had to figure out how to precede further. If by now no one else came to him it meant everything was more or less under control... so he only had to deal with what he had on his hands right now. He was pretty sure Mai wouldn’t be easily persuaded from the idea of seeing her sister, and for good reason, she should know her father was injured. But again, both of them...well, all three of them were probably to exhausted to do it all in one fell swoop...
And then, once again, Aya surprised them all, inviting them over to her home for the time being. so they could eat and rest. That was a somewhat tempting offer, but he had to keep his head leveled here. Aya was still pretty injured...though judging by the fact she was still standing and coherently thinking, it must have been to that bad. After a brief silence he would say "If anything, Aya-chan, I still need to check up on your injuries, in case you shouldn’t be laying down in one of the bed's for healing. But I guess if it means Ill manage to get you to lay down and rest...I think you offer sounds reasonable. We all deserved a rest, but we also need to make sure the message that the other Division know of Tanaka-san's status. And also make sure the message gets to the 3rd Division." With a soft exhausted sigh he would speak on to the other medics "Alright now...you all go and rest now, I’ll have someone take the patient’s body to the morgue." After the other medics left he turned to the remaining company saying "I’ll go on a quick round through the hall's, just to ensure everyone the situation is under control...and to calm my nerves a bit, hehe. You can wait for me at the entrance, Mai-chan, Aya-chan...and Rip-san, if you wish to join us. If you’re feeling well, we can escort you to the gates of the city to see you of on your way home... I’ll make sure nothing happens to you during your stay here" he said with a wide, but clearly tired smile, before leaving the room, watching the other three move out as well. Soon after two other medics came into the room, and carried of Brain’s body of to wait for a proper burial.
The medic was quite worried for a second, almost jumping from his spot towards Arashi. She was choking...was it some kind of poision? Shock? Well, whatever it was, before he could offer any assistance it seemed the Fukutaicho calmed down, and started to breathe again. In silence he listened to what she said, nodding from time to time, and after she finished talking he said "Well, I guess I can leave you here on guard...just promise you won’t forget about breathing again, alright? And your right, I’m pretty hungry...you better get some chow to. And I wouldn’t worry about Misses Tanaka, she was around Hitoshi Taicho. And if anything, our Captain will probably work himself to death and come back just to make sure we're all fine, hehe. But I wouldn’t worry about her, she is in good hands. Have a good rest, Fukutaicho-san" he concluded, before stepping out of the room with a big sigh... a quick rest would surely serve him well.
On his last check up, ensuring that everything was in order into he Division, Harupia of course passed around the room with Tanaka-san. He was quite surprised to see a red haired women by the bedside, as he peeked through the door, but he only smiled to himself, before moving on. he was sure Arashi-san would make sure nothing disturbed her Taicho. With that he headed towards the gates, where he hopefully met with the trio under his care, before they would head of to rest in Aya's home. They all could use it for sure.
(Exit unless stoped. Gotta remember to put these in x.x)

They talked a lot. Rip was beginning to understand why Sengoku did not want to involve the Shinigami; their help could be invaluable to the Rukon's cause, yet by the time they finished deliberating on the best course of action that cause may already have been lost. He sighed heavily before addressing the Taicho, "I appreciate the thought, Captain, but I don't think your subordinate's offer was intended to include the random stranger she met at a man's deathbed." He offered an apologetic nod to the taller of the two women, before returning to their Taicho, "I need to deliver these reports to this Saikokui Kurisuna; tell her how this man died. Don't know why, just have to. So if you're going to rest, eat, take a nap, whatever; I would ask that you kindly point me in the right direction so I can do this thing and go home."
The day was already long, and it was just getting longer. He didn't like being behind the white walls. The longer he was here, the more agitated he became. Best to complete his self imposed task as quickly as possible, then get the hell outta Seireitei. The place just made him uncomfortable.
He conceded that the Taicho should do one final round, and agreed to meet him at the main doors in the hopes they would show him where he could unload his burden and be done with this 'adventure.'

Harupia's words served as a sudden reminder of her aching sides. Aya visibly grimaced as her bruised ribs spoke protest to any further exertion. She nodded unconsciously, a bead of sweat tickling her face as it descended from her disheveled hairline past eyes glazed and dull, past high cheekbones marked by dirt and grime, past lips quivering in exhaustion, and down, down, down, to rest at the tip of an angular chin. Her hand, still mounted on the younger girl's shoulder, retained little of its vital hues before. It seemed the claw of some skeletal apparition rather than the appendage of someone living.
Of course, Aya rarely got much sun. There was that.
Down below the surface of her skin, the pain throbbed, but that did not halt a level of professionalism. As they turned to leave, Mai leading Aya from the space where they had lost Brain, the older of the two spoke to Rip, her words composed and polite. "Captain Kurisuna oversees the third division, which is at the Northern end, opposite our own complex. There is a main road leading to the first division beyond the gate here, and if you head that way, you can circle around the first division and continue north to the third."
Her voice faltered then, trailing again into silence. Mai went on ahead, and for a moment, she was alone with the man there. "Th-thank you..." she mumbled. "For bringing him... home, I mean..."
She was also glad he was safe, for something inside her told her it had been his voice she had heard when the madness began. He had been the one to flee inwards from the hollow, and she heard it, but the arrival of the hollow distracted her. A warm feeling welled up that he had come out alive, something to push back the cold clutching hand of Brain's death.
Bowing slowly, she saw herself out, joining Mai and Harupia on their way back to the residential district to the west, where the sounds of a couple of fifth division members in training could already be heard. She knew the path well, and her feet moved unconsciously, slowly, and patiently, as a smile wound it way onto her face. Despite the death and the pain she had seen today, she had grown that much closer to her compatriots in the second division and personally seen that the Soutaichou would live to fight another day.
A job well done, if one were to assess as much.
[Exit; Mai also exited unless she wants to post it herself?]

Mai had no objection to Aya's proposition. Secretly, she welcomed it, and some of the tension binding her wasted frame washed away as she murmured her approval. Yes, she would like that very much. In truth, her body likely wouldn't make it to the first division, which lay between the third and the second divisions in the middle of the walled city. As she followed behind Harupia to leave, she offered what she hoped to be a small smile of sympathy to Rip; she paused just outside the door, and turned around to come back in.
She approached the counter to rifle through the drawers in an orderly fashion; if the rukon was going to go alone, and she hated herself for it, but if she asked him to carry a message for her sister, it could at least get things going, right? She finally found a small scrap of paper and a writing utensil, and after a moment, scrawled a message in a shaky hand; she folded the note and on the top flap, wrote Chie's name in as smooth a script she could manage. Sighing shakily, the rattled staccato or her exhalation almost mirroring the same rhythm that she had scrawled for Chie to please, please come visit their father while he lay unconscious, she turned to face the shorter man, suddenly a child again. Her eyes were wide and watery with emotion brought up from the short message, the thin line of carmine ink around their lids stark against the paleness of her face. Emotions passed under the thin layer of skin as she crossed the short span between counter and man, reflecting the battle she waged with herself. She should be the one to tell Chie, she should be the one to deliver the message, she should have the ability to be the adult and do it herself, not to take the easy way out and have some unknown man do it for her. Instead, she asked in a cracking, soft voice, "I-if you are not going to j-join us, c-could you please deliv-ver this as well?" In her extended, trembling hand, she offered the folded note.
Later, she waited for Harupia with Aya at the main entrance of the second division, and then, with a deep breath, started the next leg of their journey into...who knew what.
[exit]
[to avoid assumptions, I'm going to let Rip decided if he's goin to take the note or not and then I'll deal with the outcome later]

Arashi folded her arms on the side of Malik’s bed and rested her chin on her arms as Deci curled up against her shoulder and neck. She listened to the man talk and she began to wonder what just happened to her, why had she stopped breathing? It’s not as if the man had said anything to really upset her like that. Arashi took a big inhale and sighed as if to show him she was indeed still breathing.
I wouldn’t worry about Misses Tanaka, she was around Hitoshi Taicho.
Arashi slowly nodded her head. Although, it was true that she shouldn’t worry about Mai, she still did deep down. Her eyes began to fill a little heavy as she continued to listen to the man. His voice began to drone on and become slurred together in her mind. He became a background noise. Arashi was still nodding her head, trying to act like she was still listening to him. Even after he left she was still nodding a little until finally her head leaned to the side, her cheek resting against her arm. She inhaled softly as she began to doze out.
Her eyes fluttered open once to check on Malik before shutting into a well needed, relaxing rest. {[Exit via Sleep]}

The taller of the two women provided him with the directions he needed. He nodded his thanks; offered a warm smile in gratitude. He was tired. Not physically, but mentally; weary of the White City. Though it was a small thing the directions lifted his spirits. He could get this done, and quickly.
As he made to leave the younger girl approached him, letter in hand. She asked him to deliver it for her. He stared at her for a heartbeat, "I... sure." He took the letter, glancing at it briefly; the name scrawled across its face. Chie... He tucked it within the fold of his shirt, gave a polite nod, then made to leave the division grounds.
