A pale moon glistened off of reflective grains of sand, throwing splotches of weak light onto the sides of an old stone wall. It was silent, any inhabitants out and about on the hunt or asleep in wait of the days to come and the howling winds that normally graced the desert expanse all but nonexistent. It was almost calming, and few would guess at all that something was astir in the quiet ruins of what had possibly been a great city at one time.
Of course, all was not calm. Rumbling beneath the sands near the wall could tell a trained ear that something was amiss. It was subtle at first, a mild shifting, a sheet of sand sliding from the top of the wall into a pile along the internal side. Then, the noise increased. Something had awoke beneath the tomb of sand and dust. Something had arisen to feed while the night was cool and what few hollow remained in the area could be caught unawares. Perhaps there was some particularly stupid hollow who hadn't thought to find shelter during the night.
Well, for the something that had stirred, that meant dinner.
Hunger. Hunger. Hunger.
This was the thought process of the serpentine beast that crawled beneath the sands, raising a small line in the sand to denote its presence. It snuck closer, using its tremorsenses to detect the location of hollow nearby. Nothing there. Nothing. Hunger. Hunger. Still it crept, passing by a small hovel where glittering black eyes stared forth. They were arachnoid hollow, attached to the walls and ceiling of their stone domain, and as such, immune to the detection methods of an underground sandworm.
Hunger. Eat. Eat. Eat! Flesh!
There! A movement of skittering feet, the sound of frightened young hollow hidden amongst the rubble of a building on the south edge of the ruins. The long crawl had at last yielded a potential meal. Now was the time to feast! With a great roar, the beast reared back from the sands, staring down at the hollow before it, its prey, with hunger glinting madly in its eyes. It had hibernated for so long, and now it was awake and starving.
And lunging down, the hollow's jaws opened wide. Two dozen teeth, all razor sharp and painted by the moonlight reflecting off the saliva drops, dove forward to feed. They went down, down, down and clamped tightly around-
The worm howled in pain. The tremors had lied! No food! Still hungry! What had he bitten down upon? Naught but rock! Where had the young hollow gone? Tears in his eyes from the excruciating pain, he looked upwards and saw two quadrupedal hollow flapping thin black wings in the air. They were obviously still young, as their flight was weak and poorly sustained, but they were stubborn, and their need to fly far surpassed their capability to do so at will.
And the worm sunk back down onto the stone slab to rest his jaw. He whimpered and whined aloud, "Hungerrrrr! Waaaah!"

A shadow cast from the light of the moon lazily circled along the sand, the sound of wind rustling over leathery wings. Dark crimson eyes searched both the skies and sandy floor for prey, something to sate the hunger of the predator. Night was the best time to hunt, when the sand was cool it allowed the draconic hollow to see the body heat of other creatures.
So far there was no success. So she continued on, eyes still scanning the area around her. She started to grumble when something brightly colored flickered out of the corner of her eye. There! A swarm of clumsy flying hollows, ugly compared to the dragon in her views. She was about to swoop down at the young monsters when she suddenly heard a wail fit for a giant.
Kurai scoped the area for the source of the noise, her interest on the flying hollows gone. It was then that she spotted a giant mass of bright red upon a background of deep blue. That had to be the source of the wails. Angling her wings slightly and flicking her tail, the hollow changed her course and circled low over head the wormish hollow, her curiosity rising before she lighted on a column, wings poised to take to flight if needs be.
"Why is hollow crying? Hollow doesn't look hurt."

What was that? Was that the sound of food? The sniveling worm's eyes opened again and scanned his surroundings. Flapping. Wooshing. Wind blowing every which way and all about. Finally, the whooshing stopped. Perhaps food had landed?
Jaga looked upwards. A draconic hollow stood perched upon part of the ruins of the building before him. She was small, of course, in comparison to Jaga's immense length. The serpentine creature was easily one of the largest hollow to crawl about this part of the wastes, after all. It stood to reason that he would encounter creatures smaller than he, but something told him, maybe from how she spoke, that this was not prey. This was not flesh to be hungered for and salivated upon and how deliciously and tenderly devoured.
No. Alas.
"Hungerrr. Jaga forgot to eat for so long. Hiding under bigsand for manysun!" He wriggled as if to bury himself again. It was easy, and he was wary enough to think that it might be wise to head for the underground already. His wails had summoned this little draconic hollow. What else might they summon with far more power than he? That was something he didn't really want to know. He sank his bulk up until it was just his bone-plated head poking out from the sands. He opened his aching jaw to show the hollow his teeth.
"Jaga bit on notfood! Bit down on rocks! Still hunger!" Tears welled in his eyes. While he was probably a very menacing hollow to his prey, this creature was still young, and his mind was that of a child. He looked curiously at the hollow questioning him. "Has Bigwing eaten? Is Bigwing stroooong?"
In the back corner of the worm's mind, he wanted her to say no. He thought he could take her if she said no.

The much smaller hollow tilted her head, the fur sliding over the right side of her face. Her forefeet shuffled against the edge of the column, claws digging into the sandstone to assure that she wouldn't topple over. "Why would Jaga forget to eat? Food is yummy, especially fish, but other hollow can be yummy too." Yes, how delicious fish was. It was just yummy and... fishy! "Kurai doesn't like sun either. It hurts Kurai's eyes and makes it hard for Kurai too see colors. Everything looks the same, all bright and blinding."
The dragon flinched when the worm started to move, wings spreading out further in preparation for take off in case Jaga decided to make a meal of her. However, once she realized that he was sinking back into the sand, her wings shuffled to rest against her back, her tail flicking back and forth much like a felines.
Upon the worm's mouth opening, Kurai would crane her head lower to inspect the injured mouth. Just faintly, she could make out a trickle of yellow dribbling from the gums of the large hollow. "Jaga looks like it hurt its teeth. Maybe Jaga shouldn't eat rocks anymore?" The hollow would let out a teasing giggle before giving her body a shake, tossing the fur along her spine. After the shake, she would crawl down the column as far as her body could stretch out before leaping to a lower wall. Once settled she would sit back on her haunches, tail curling around her forelegs.
Hearing the nickname Jaga gave her made her giggle once again as she spread out her wings to their full length. "Kurai guesses she does have big wings. As for Jaga's question, no. Kurai has not eaten yet. As for Kurai being strong, Neene told Kurai that Kurai has to be strong to stay alive. Kurai is still alive, so yes, Kurai is somewhat strong." Seeing the tears of the worm hollow made Kurai feel sorry for the creature. "Maybe Kurai can help Jaga find more food?"

The sandworm shuffled out of the hole again, choosing to coil himself around on the sand lazily. It was a show of submission, one of the few he knew how to do. This was a powerful hollow. She had said so herself, and Jaga didn't want to attack a hollow like that. He wanted to feed. He was hungry. "Jaga slept manysun. Sun up. Sun down. Sun up. Sun down. Manysun. Woke up hungry!" He groaned with that word, letting his teeth show. Jaga's mouth yawned before the draconic hollow, and he whined in pain. "Mouthhurt goes away fast, but hunger stays!" He thrashed momentarily in the sand. "Bigwing Kurai too strong to eat, but Bigwing Kurai can get food?" The worm rumbled at the thought of food after so long in hibernation, his bulk shaking with a heavy laugh. The sweetness of hollow flesh between his jaws brought upon a euphoria unlike any he felt otherwise. And Bigwing was going to feed him. He only needed to be fed this one time. He was a big hollow. He could do it himself next time. A thought occurred to him. "If Bigwing Kurai is Bigwing, can Jaga be Littlewing? Bigwing can teach Littlewing how she hunts!" Hurr hurr hurr. Sorry. Lame post is lame, but I'm bluh bluh after a night of hard partying.

Kurai flicked her fur-tipped tail to and fro as she listened to the worm's plight. In a sense, she related to the younger hollow. She was along, had to find food for herself, and sometimes went days without food. She knew the ache of hunger gnawing at her belly. It was a terrible feeling. Kurai stood up from her perch suddenly, opening her wings wide. "Kurai would be happy to help Jaga. How does Jaga usually find food?"
Kurai then giggled at Jaga's question, "Of course Jaga can be littlewing. Jaga can be anything Jaga wants to be."

Hurr hurr. Jaga laughed a deep throaty sound and his length writhed in excitement. Bigwing was going to show him how she hunted, and he could be Littlewing, too! He turned his head so that he could see backwards over his length. Where would the wings go? There was a lot of him to hold up. He knew that from wrestling with prey previously, but lifting him into the air seemed bizarre. Maybe he could get a headstart if he burrowed and then leaped into the air from underground, and then it wouldn't matter where his wings were.
"Jaga hunts from under bigsand!" He shuffled around in the sand for a moment to submerge himself about halfway again, just to show her that he could. Feeling rather impressed with himself, he opened a broad toothy grin. "Food can't see Jaga under bigsand, but Jaga can see them." Hurr hurr. He closed his eyes tightly and listened for Bigwing's movements. There! He could see her in his mind, her claws scraping at the rock, her wings pushing the air down to the sands. She wasn't very subtle at all.
Jaga assumed it was because of how strong she must be.
Salivating again, Jaga stared at Kurai, his eyes open again. "Jaga knows where some soft food is, but Jaga can't get them in hardstoneplace. Bigwing could, though! Bigwing has notbig body. Good for squeezing." With a flick of his tail, he gestured towards one of the larger stone ruins behind him. It must have been constructed well or just very lucky for it was perhaps the only one to not have begun to sink into the sands as its foundations collapsed. Jaga's trouble probably lay in the foundations.
Many hollow in the area knew about the sandworms that might turn up, and smarter hollow knew that the building was safe. It was a risk, since being in close proximity to other hollow might not be healthy either, but it was better to know your enemy was next to you than not to know a creature like Jaga might turn up from under you at any time.
And it could happen at any time. Jaga's kind were voracious. They didn't stop being hungry regardless of their consumption. Being friends with another hollow was risky. Jaga doubly so as he might lose himself to his hunger at any time.

Kurai turned her scaly head to the direction of the sandstone structure. It was big enough for her, yes, but the darkness and unknown deep with in it frightened the dragon. She let out a small whine before an idea came to her. Maybe there will be some shiny stuff in there to add to Kurai's shiny? Kurai can do it for shiny and food!
"Okay! Kurai will go in there and chase out whatever hollows she finds. But if it's Kurai leaving the building, don't eat her. She will find other hollows with flying!" The dragon then leaped into the air and glided to the entrance of the building, landing softly against the sand. She craned her head around the opening, eyes searching for any bright spots within the dark blues of the room. Sliding in further, claws clicking against the stone of the building, Kurai disappeared into the structure, her heart pounding loudly as she searched for prey.

Another vast rumble shook the sands near the worm as he thought about silly Bigwing fleeing from the building. She was strong, or so she said, so why would she need to flee from those hollows inside? Did Bigwing know something about hollow nearby that Jaga didn't? Were the hollow inside strong as well? Jaga didn't want to attack them when Bigwing sent them out if they were stronger than them both. That seemed like a terrible idea.
And yet it sank into his subconscious behind the thick veil of hunger. He was starving, and Bigwing promised him food. He wouldn't attack her if she gave him food, but if he got too hungry and they couldn't find something, well...
The sandworm's expression sank when he thought that his hunger might get the better of him. Bigwing has taken him in as her own! How awful it would be to find himself so enamored with his desire to eat that he would hurt Bigwing! He vowed then to make sure each hollow he went to eat was not her from then on, that way he wouldn't ever accidentally eat Bigwing.
His bulk sank into the sands near the building, waiting for Bigwing to return. His body shifted the sands near the buildings and he waited. He could hear them scurrying about as she approached, lithe and purposeful, and he could hear her movements as well, her claws scraping against the stone floor, her heart racing in anticipation. Jaga heard it and hunted alongside her, his heart beating in time to her own.
Meanwhile, strange creatures crawled those spaces, all afraid of the draconic hollow that had invaded their abode.

Moving deeper into the structure, Kurai snuffled. The place did reek of hollow, of dead. She shivered, her tail switching back and forth as her crimson eyes continued to watch the area cautiously. Kurai does not like this place at all. The walls are too thick. How is Kurai supposed to find food if she can't see them coming? She stifled a sigh, needing to be absolutely quiet. Kurai doesn't like this kind of hunting. Fishing and flying is much more fun.
Nothing could be found in the first room, at least from what her thermal vision could show her, so she continued down further, heart rate increasing even more out of fear.

Jaga felt Kurai's heartrate increase. It puzzled him. It sounded like prey, but Kurai was the predator! She was strong! Why would her heartsound, her lifebeat, get quicker and louder? The sandworm shifted uncomfortably. Was their something he couldn't see inside? Was there a stronger hollow, something eager to eat their flesh? What to do? What to do?
What else was there to do?
The worm roared, a mammoth sound rendered through two separate sets of vocal chords. The sandworm hollow, when hunting, let forth their cries in an inhuman moan as a scare tactic. The air from Jaga's massive diaphragm traveled up his extended trachea until a valve split the air into two separate tunnels. It was in these sub-trachea that the airstreams were passed through two separate sets of skin folds, one tuned to yield a rumbling not unlike the worm's speaking voice, the other such that it would cry like a bat, up and over the normal human's threshold of hearing. The two cries then rejoined at the back of the mouth, where the creature's open maw acted as an amplifier.
It was a strange cacophony, a chorus of terror that only his kind could create and even then only when the jaw was fully extended, so that the valve in the throat could be opened. It sounded through stone, for the vibrations could penetrate even the soft sand and hardened sandstone slabs. Up and up it traveled, through floor and ceiling, shaking the whole of the building with its scream. Deafening but not quite damaging, the scream started a great many of the creatures inside, though they knew better than to leave.
Jaga's tactic scared none from their building home, but one such hollow, a slinking rat of a hollow with fur smelling of carcasses, wandered from his corner, only to be snapped up by an immense slavering pair of jaws. With a sniff, the creature slid carefully across the floor towards an open archway where a certain draconic hollow was looking for food.

The ground rumbled below Kurai's feet as the roar from the sandworm erupted from it's maw. She instantly cowered, lowing to the floor as she let out a whine. What was this terrible noise?! The dragon was filled with terror. Could it have been something deeper in the ruins? Something that would eat both her and the worm? She couldn't think straight. Her fleeing sense had kicked in, but her limbs refused to move, almost paralyzed to the spot.
After the bellowing noise died down, Kurai heard a faint clicking of noises, her mind conjuring up a fearsome monster in the other room the doorway led to. Shortly followed was a snapping of jaws and bones, a shrill shriek from the rat hollow that had filled Kurai's mind with a gigantic beast. Her eyes desperately searched of any signs for an enemy, circling widely around the door frame instead of snaking her head in there. If only Kurai had help right now. This place is scary!
Finally coming around to the other side of the opening, Kurai saw a bright orange being about the same size as her form, the red form of the rat-hollow dangling from the mandible of the creature. The dragon-hollow held her breath, not risking another shrill shriek as she stood face to face with the slavering eight-legged monster. Nononononononono... why a spider hollow! Kurai can't handle a spider hollow!

Bigwing had ceased her movements! Had Jaga done that with his cry? He didn't understand. This working with another for food was new to him. He shifted uncomfortably in the sands, his throat rumbling in a similar whine to Bigwing's own, though he could only hear her now pounding heartbeat as her claws no longer scraped across the stone. Was she in danger? Was she not, in fact, strong as she had said?
Jaga was now having doubts.
But there was something else inside, something spindly that made soft pattering noises when it moved. It was close, just before Bigwing. Dangerous and threatening to catch her within its jaws! Jaga momentarily saw a chance that she might be eaten alive within the stone walls, and something gurgled within him. He was hungry and Bigwing was helping him feed. The idea that something else was about to eat before he got the chance enraged the sandworm.
Back and forth he slid underneath the sands, watching the stone slabs that composed the walls above him. He mentally willed his plated head harder and raced away from the building, a horrendous noise echoing all around as he barreled through debris buried beneath the sands. Finally, he reached a distance and turned around completely, now aiming approximately where he thought Bigwing's predator lay.
This was a terrible idea, objectively. Normally, the sandworm hollow would never attempt to bash through the stone slabs. They were too thick to break, and should he fail to make it through, he'd be trapped under falling rubble. Alone, it was suicide.
But he was hungry. Nothing else mattered.
An immense rumble started as he picked up speed, reversing his previous trail through the dunes. Muscles tensed at precisely the moment necessary to leap into the air- Jaga only knew hunting from beneath the sands. Aiming at a spot above them was trivial.- Jaga's bulk smashed into the stone slab somewhere near Bigwing and her predator, immense jaws gnashing at the spider in hopes of eating. Bigwing had located it for Jaga, and with her there, he could escape despite the rocks now descending onto his being.
But had he gotten the spider into his maw?
That was a good question.

A soft rumbling startled Kurai, letting her know that something larger was approaching, and fast. She had to get out of there, but how? This creepy crawly was staring her right in the face. If she moved, she just might be the next source of food for the spider. The dragon suppressed a whine as she started to slowly back out away from the dripping jaws of the spider. Fight or fly? Fly.
The rumbling grew more intense as she tried to slip away from the arachnid hollow as fast as possible without alerting it into action. She had failed the giant sandworm. Is Kurai going to be Jaga's food now? Kurai can't die yet! She has to find her new Neene!
Before she could decide what to do, the stones from where she was just standing erupted, making her screech out in fear as the worm gnashed it's jaws for the spider. Of course she couldn't see anything as sand and stone fell from above and below. This was the second most scariest moment of her life. Would this be the end for her?

Were Bigwing calm enough to look in front of her, she might have even laughed at the sight. Jaga had forced his way into the stony room, intent on feeding on the hollow she had called from its hiding place, and now his jaws gnashed up and down in a slow chewing motion, the spider hollow's back legs extending from his mouth towards the middle of the room. Luckily, it seemed the structure of the building had held for the most part, and though a few large chunks of stone landed heavily onto the floor, all three were unscathed from that danger.
Well, except the spider hollow was now being slurped up into Jaga's maw like a meatball at the end of spaghetti noodles. The sandworm hollow let out a contented "Hurrhurrhurr" at the feeling of flesh between his jaws. It certainly wasn't a full meal, but it was food, and he had not eaten in so long. He was content for the moment to simply enjoy the feeling of food on his tongue as it slid into his throat. The juices of his mouth were horribly corrosive, and in very short order the spider was already howling in pain as its legs seemed to dissolve in Jaga's gullet.
"Mmmmffigwing fed Littlmmfing," he said, still working on the main spider body. "Anmf Littlewing flew like Bigwing. Gonfmnnfmnnf." More heavy laughing. For the moment, the instability of the building had ceased. "Bigwing is smart. Mmmhmf. She found food and Littlewing ate. Mmfmmnf."
Of course, outside was a big tail wagging back and forth on the sand surface, showing a supremely happy being on the other end. Jaga was eating a rare delicacy of inside-a-dark-small-place-food. This was a treat!

Kurai's body shook from the adrenaline that coursed through her veins, the taste of stomach acid on her tongue. She was never again going to go hunting in a building, no matter how hungry she was. She could end up being the one as the meal. The young dragon stared with wide eyes at the large worm, forelegs shaking violently as she plopped back on her haunches. Her mind reeled for words, stumbling over them before finally finding the elusive words.
"K-Kurai will not be hunting in here again... Too many spider hollows. B-but Kurai did manage to g-get Jaga food, just like she promised." The hollow lowered herself so she was lying on the stone floor, trying to slow her heart beat by taking deep breaths. Her tail flicked back and forth in agitation, the only sign that she was still flustered by the event. "How is Jaga liking the food Kurai found for Jaga?"

Jaga stopped chewing for a moment. The spider hollow's fleshy innards trailed from his mouth and pooled blood onto the floor of the stone building. Bigwing was frightened? Of Jaga? He hadn't meant to be fearsome. He had only meant to help Bigwing secure his- no, their prey! And here he was eating without sharing with Bigwing! Had he been acting greedy? Was he taking advantage of nice Bigwing's efforts? Was she hungry too? Why had she offered to help Jaga get food? She could have killed him, he figured, if he was weaker.
Maybe he was stronger. At that thought, a big laugh shook his length again. Impossible!
"Mmmffigwing can have some if she wants. Littlewing is happy to share with brave and strong Bigwing!" he said, spitting out his partially eaten corpse. He reeled out from the building, careful not to drop stones onto him, Bigwing, or the food before them, and waited for her to bring it down where they could feast together. It was more than enough food to tide the sandworm over until he could find his next meal, and certainly, he hoped that Bigwing wouldn't mind if he followed her for a while.
"Does Bigwing have family? Littlewing Jaga is alone," he said, once she had come out. "Littlewing Jaga gets lonely sometimes. Bigsand has not many not-prey-not-predator, and Littlewing is afraid of strong hollow. Strong hollow are mean! Try to trick Littlewing. Try to eat." His eyes again watered, as if he were about to burst into tears again. "But Bigwing is nice! Littlewing can share kills with her. Good team. Hurrhurr."

Her eye's hooded halfway, Kurai gave a small, almost disgusted, look at the gnarled and slimy remains of the arachnid hollow. If she were hungry then, she felt less so now. Never has she eaten regurgitated food. Neene never treated the draconic hollow that way, being that she was born with her sharp teeth. Before she could even give the worm a response, the worm tunneled back out, causing Kurai to sigh. Grabbing hold of the mutilated spider with her teeth, the hollow began to drag the food out of the building, still not liking the feeling of eyes on her.
Once out of the standstone structure, Kurai released her hold on the spider, letting out a huff and inhaling the sweet scent of fresh, dry air. Much better than the stagnant air inside the building. She sat back on her haunches, sand billowing up as her rear touched down. Craning her head up to look at the worm, Kurai gave Jaga a smile.
"Kurai had Neene, but she was killed by another hollow. Neene managed to kill the hollow so Kurai wasn't hurt. Kurai also has twin, but Kurai doesn't really remember them very well. They left when Kurai was a bit younger. Kurai does have Cheema though. Cheema doesn't talk back to Kurai, sadly," the dragon flicked her tail, "Kurai would like that. Having Jaga around would be the best team ever! Kurai can find trouble from the skies, and Jaga from underground!"

The worm's hearty laugh sent tremors into the sands nearby. Bigwing had taken their prey out onto the dunes in front of the building, where it landed with a dull splat. She didn't seem to eat any of it, which Jaga didn't understand. Weren't they hunting together? Wasn't this their shared prey? Well, maybe Bigwing wasn't hungry right now. She was strong, though. She could catch her own prey whenever she felt like it! Hurrhurr.
"Someday Bigwing can teach Littlewing to fly all the time like her!" he said, wriggling in delight at the idea of soaring through the air along side the sisterly hollow. Then a thought occurred to him. He had heard about these hollow before, creatures more like those on the inside of bigcircle hardwall to the north. They had once occupied forms like his own, animalistic creatures, worms and big cats and flying creatures of all sorts. Once they had gotten strong enough, though, they had changed and become more like the two-legged fleshes from inside the hardwall.
"Can Bigwing change?" he asked. The question probably didn't make sense outside of context, which the draconic hollow had none. "Can Bigwing get two legs and sharp blade? Littlewing heard that some hollow get two legs. Littlewing wants legs." His length writhed at the idea. What must that be like? "Littlewing could be a big twolegger! Big as south mountains! So big, he could walk right over! Can't dig. Mountainroots too hard. Could walk over though! Hurrhurrhurr."

Kurai gave the worm a skeptical look. Him flying? Doubtful. Instead of breaking the poor worm's heart, though, the dragon merely gave the worm a smile. Let dreams be dreams. Jaga will forget about flying like Kurai. He doesn't even have wings like Kurai or Neene did. Silly worm. Sniffing at the dead hollow, Kurai listened as Jaga continued to talk.
"Can Kurai change? Kurai doesn't know. She hasn't seen the broken masks before. Though it must be easier for broken masks to get food. Maybe Kurai could become broken masks and get all the food for Jaga and Kurai to eat." The dragon gave a little hum of delight. Yes, that was a great idea. Become a broken mask for food.

Becoming a broken mask gave you all the food you could eat? Jaga's heart raced at the idea, and his tail pounded heavily against the desert sands. Hurrhurr. Hurrhurrhurr. Bigwing would become a broken mask and then get all the food she wanted, so could Jaga? He had heard that two-leggers could safely walk among the little tasty ones behind the hardwall to the north. Perhaps Jaga and Bigwing could sneak inside and get tasty two-leggers for food. That must be how they could eat all they want.
"Littlewing wants to become broken mask then. Hurrhurr. Get all the food he wants. Then Bigwing and Littlewing can get food together and have bigfun." Jaga had previously seen into the Rukongai before, and inside looked like all kinds of little houses and buildings. He could hide there and Bigwing could come and find him. What a great game of hide-and-seek it could be! Hurrhurr. That was a game he usually only got to play with prey out on the sands.
He would have to be careful. When he played with prey, he tagged them with his jaws. He didn't want to eat Bigwing. She was nice!

The little hollow tucked her feet under her body, eyes glistening happily as she thought of being a broken mask. Kurai would be so pretty, even prettier than Neene. She let out a little sigh of awe as she imagined herself. Tall, with long dark hair. "Kurai will be so pretty when she becomes a broken mask! I wonder how we can become a broken mask."
Kurai tapped her chin in thought, shuffling her wings as she shifted to lay on her side. Did they have to find something special, or go somewhere. Maybe eat more hollows to gain their powers? "Does Jaga know how to become a broken mask?"

What did Bigwing mean by that? Pretty? The worm hollow's excited tail wiggling ceased, and he was for a moment enraptured in a thought process. The word held meaning to him in some vague fashion, but only because he had once heard it said about the night sky by a pair of prey. The memory of creeping up behind them welled up in his mind, and Jaga was momentarily reminded of his hunger once more. Furiously, his jaws surrounded the corpse of the spider hollow, and there was a crack as he broke through a layer of exoskeleton to get at the flesh beneath.
As he chewed, his thought process continued. The broken masks walked on two legs. Was that pretty? A swallow gave him a chance to speak. "Jaga doesn't know. Maybe eat one?" he suggested. "But what's pretty about broken masks? Isn't Bigwing already pretty?" The draconic hollow's lithe form fit to some degree what the worm hollow understood about attractive aesthetics. She was lean but still powerful, whereas a massive hollow like Jaga was not pretty.
"Would Jaga be pretty too?"

Kurai hopped up onto her feet, tail flicking to show her giddiness. "Kurai has met some shinigami that didn't kill her. One is brother. But Kurai met two girl shinigami. One was really pretty, and the other one had something covering her face so Kurai couldn't see her face very well, but Kurai guesses she's pretty too. Kurai wants to be pretty like them. And hide with them so she can get food without having to be attacked." The dragon started to dig a small hole within the sand, clawed digits raking further into the earth. "If Kurai could be pretty like them, Kurai will be happy forever."
Her serpentine head rose to look up at the worm, a toothy grin appearing on her face, "How about this. If Kurai becomes a broken mask first, she will tell Jaga how to be a broken mask too. But if Jaga turns to broken mask first, Jaga has to find Kurai and tell her how. If we get separated, like when Kurai goes into Rukongai for fish, we will meet here every seven days." Her wings and tail flicked slightly as her head tilted to the right, eyes closing in a bigger smile, "'Kay?"
Hearing Jaga calling her pretty would have made a blush visible on her cheeks if it weren't covered by her mask. She dragged her forepaw through the sand, giggling softly, "Kurai thanks Jaga for the compliment. But Kurai isn't as pretty as Neene was. And Jaga would most definitely be pretty! We shall be pretty together!"

Tasty two-leggers that didn't attack hollow on sight? Well, that just sounded like easy prey to Jaga. Any of the little morsels who refused to fend for themselves in the bigsands were asking to be devoured. For a moment, a red flag went up in Jaga's head. Bigwing had met some? They hadn't killed her? They must have been stronger than her if she was afraid of being killed. Much stronger, but then Bigwing said she didn't want to fight for food. How silly! That was the fun part.
"Jaga likes to chase scurryprey. Little hollow and two-leggers who try and get away, but they don't see Jaga coming..." he started, laughing at remembered chases. "But prey that fight back are more tasty. Nibbly little two-leggers taste good on Jaga's tongue, and even better if two-leggers fight bigloud." His tail wagged furiously in the sand at the idea of a bloody fight for his food. Truthfully, Jaga was a bit of a coward, but he liked to play with prey who he was sure to overcome.
"But Bigwing has two-legger family? Bigwing is a pretty four-legger, though. Are two-leggers prettier than four-leggers? Jaga thinks more legs means more pretty, since he doesn't have any." He frowned at the idea that he might not ever get to be as pretty as the sleek Bigwing or the delicate two-leggers, but despite his frown, another laugh shook his frame as he remembered that strength didn't depend on being pretty.

Kurai inched closer to the sandworm, placing her forelegs against his mighty body as she inspected him. In her eyes, the dragon thought Jaga had an easier time with catching prey. And his form was well suited for hunting in the desert. "Kurai believes that everything is made pretty. Like Jaga is. Jaga can go underground and get prey without them even seeing Jaga! Kurai doesn't have that kind of ability. All she has are wings and claws. Things know when Kurai is going to attack them. Her wings are too noisy."
She placed her feet back down onto the ground, sitting back on her haunches once again as her tail curled around her body. "So what does Jaga think of the meeting weekly here?"

"Jaga doesn't know weeks, Bigwing," the worm answered.
When Bigwing approached him and put her claws on his hide, he momentarily flinched. Normally approach from another was a sign of predatorial intent, but Bigwing gave off none of the impressions that she meant to carve into him. Nonetheless, his body tensed in case he were to dive into the soil. Better to make a quick escape into the sands than be made food for a weaker hollow like Bigwing.
Weaker? Well, that may have been true. She certainly didn't seem like the strong hollow he made her out to be at first, but he liked Bigwing's eagerness. She was smart, too. Physical strength didn't matter as much, he guessed, when she could use the two-leggers to obtain food.
And on that note, a spurt of intellect came to him. "Oh! Weeks are seven sun-ups! Jaga can remember. Jaga can catch little prey for sharing, too! Plump, tasty, fleshy prey! Hurrhurrhurr. Tasty prey."

Kurai let out a happy giggle as she popped back up, tail raised to show her excitement. "Kurai and Jaga will be the best team ever! We'll be broken masks in no time!" She let out another giggle, a humming following after as she continued to smile up at the worm. Suddenly, a thought occurred to the smaller hollow. Her little pet was needing some food itself. She had to go to the second division to find that.
Kurai then scrambled up to the stone wall that she had previously perched upon, her wings spreading out in preparation to take off. "Kurai has to go now. So in seven sun's times, Kurai and Jaga will meet here and tell everything we have heard on how to become broken masks. Okay?" Kurai tilted her head to the side, toothy smile still on her face.

Meet in bigruin after seven sun-ups! Jaga committed the information to memory as a gurgle rose up within his gut. Already the massive creature was hungry again! But he had learned a lesson about Bigwing. She was certainly smarter than he was, but her strength on the hunt was lacking. He hoped that she would become a brokenmask quickly so that he could trust her to be the stronger one.
To be quite honest, being strong wasn't so much an interest for Jaga. He liked being looked after, he'd found. Bigwing had taken him hunting, and even though she had proven herself weaker than Jaga had anticipated, she had made a strange motion of camaraderie, and for that, Jaga was happy. His world consisted of prey and predator and Jaga. The introduction of a new element, someone Jaga could turn to, was exciting. Jaga felt his heart racing in tandem with a second smaller one deeper inside.
"Jaga understands! Don't get eaten, Bigwing!" he said as he churned the sand beneath him and passed down into its depths to return in some time.

The dragon gave a small giggle at Jaga's words replying in a sing songy voice, "Oh, Kurai woooon't~ Jaga better not get eaten either!" She watched the worm slip back under the sand, awed by how it could just slip away silently. If only Kurai could do that, she thought in envy.
Kurai gave a shrug of her shoulders, tail flicking towards the sky as she crouched low, "oh well. Kurai will still become strong. Kurai made a promise to Neene and will keep it." And with that, the hollow leaped up to the sky, wings flapping quickly to get a higher altitude before righting herself and making her way to the lush second district of the Rukongai.
