Mallach's Post:
After the events of the night, Mallach yet again gathered the townsfolk together and informed them of his attackers. Thus clearing him of any suspicion. "I do not know whom it was whom held me in the first place, however you have my thanks for saving me from a fate most cruel." He announced, finishing his tale from the hours prior.
"If possible I would like a statement from all those here on their whereabouts last night and if you have someone to collaborate your story. Haste is in the utmost importance." Short and to the point, mayhap they'll find his would be attackers this day after all.
Cuz gods be good, they scared the bejesus out of him. And he didn't scare too terribly easily.

Mollandir returned to his shared quarters with Aryn before she had recovered from her fainting spell completely, unable to have gained any information in his short absence. He was there when she awoke, and he calmed her down, explained what had happened (on the offchance she had forgotten watching her father behead a man in apparent cold blood), and outlined their options, of which there were few. Once the retired Seeker had talked the girl into a fitful slumber, he had snuck out once again, locking her inside, and remained on guard in the hallway, only disappearing for a few short minutes to use the...facilities.
The man almost never slept.
In the morning, an unchanged, though somewhat sore, Mollandir ushered the beleaguered Aryn outofdoors, to stand in the crowd of remaining villagers for news and to repeat the process of the previous day. The former Seeker's facade remained as inscrutable as ever, though on the inside, he was slowly putting the pieces together.
The daughter, meanwhile, gasped and fought the urge to run to her father's side, to inspect him for wounds and to chide him for making her worry...and to chide him for getting himself into yet another mess; 'the war's long over now', her prissy bottom. Clearly, they were not all just folk now.
She did, however, start raise her voice over the murmuring of the still-sleepy crowd, but was cut off with a sharp elbow in her side. She inclined her head toward the Seeker, intending to tell him off (it hurt), but the look on his face was undeniable: do not draw attention to yourself [lest the one who voices first gets lynched first, and in this case, the lady does not get to go first for chivalry isn't dead in this knight <,,<].
Instead, it was he who spoke, his gruff, gravelly voice drawing the attention to him, so that she may be saved. "Milord, both your daughter and I were in the inn along with you, and I presume several others, in the night; I heard the commotion from the hall, where I stood sentry over the Lady Mhairyn as she slept the horrors of the day away."

Jayne looked on at the scene that had just unfolded, the knightly man cleaving the heckler in half, quite uncalled for after Jayne's call for equality. Blinking slightly, he let out a sigh and shook his head, seeing nothing happening to the body. However, he did get a good look at his weapon, something of the "Eiphyre" variety, something Jayne wanted to experiment with desperately. He adjusted his armor before heading into the inn to get a good night's rest. This was going to be a while to weed out these werewolves from the townspeople. However, the scene of one of the Bridgeburners returning from the field inspired hope. But just one was a worrying sign, and Jayne knew of the properties of werewolves turning people. He wouldn't associate with him yet though, it wasn't time as he needed to have his wounds tended too. Instead, he did finally head inside the inn and went to sleep.
Awakening the next morning, a commotion was abound as he strapped his naginata, "Karas", to his back and went outside. Immediately accusations were made, with the most egregious being that the Commander from the previous day was attack by the werewolves, but saved by some mysterious stranger. Putting his hand to his chin, Jayne was curious about this development. People with the necessary skills to counter the werewolves too? Could this be providence to rid this area of the scum forever? Were there others? He thought about this while the others accounted themselves to the Commander. "Unfortunately Sir, I do not have anyone who can collaborate my account here, as I was just trying to pass through when this happened. However, I'm sure a guard or two would have noticed me going in and around the inn with my weapon on my back. It's not exactly inconspicuous." Jayne ended, pointing to his naginata, which was more then his own 6' height itself from end to end.

Things went by so fast…or perhaps he was to slow to react. As he guided Aryn towards her father, accusations were thrown. Which seemed quite foolish, accusing the right hand of the king of such an atrocity. Yet, when dealing with something commonly regarded as myth, even the most outlandish ideas could start holding weight. Regardless, lord Mallach was quite hasty to return the scathing fire of guilt. And it seemed he had the advantage of being the one to wield the blade. True, some voices did agree with his sentiment. Including a girl which seemed to be especially antagonistic towards the men called Sikes...A younger girl, yet still looking somewhat shady. Things went on quite fast, people gathering around the accuser and brining him before Mallach. He tried to step within it to try and reason with the lord, but before he could, Strombringer made the swift cut. He could only watch as the men’s head rolled on the ground, and he could hear Mhairyn feint behind him.
They all waited for something to happen…buy nothing did. If the tales were to believed, the slain werewolf would show its true form in death…and Yet this body remained called and very much human. His family always believed that using your blade swiftly was always the best choice…he could imagine them in the crowd cheering the execution. And yet the danger was still there, and there was one more life lost…the werewolves needed not bother come to the village at this rate.
There was one good thing to happen at the very least. It turned out that one of the valiant defenders of the night before had survived. In dire shape, but he lived. He was quickly carried away for proper care. Caden offered his assistance in the healing, but the field medics protested, not wanting anyone wasn’t in the village before the attack to tend to their commander. Other members of the order protested but Caden conceded. He understood tension was high, and didn’t mean to cause more strife. Besides, he had faith in the abilities of the other healers. He would survive…he could have been walking in a few ways with his help, but he had the field medics to thank for that. He had passed by Aryn’s and Mollandirs room as well to see how she was ok, and thankfully she was, though still unconscious. He came early in the night so he was not there to witness any…shenanigans. It had to be a great displeasure for her to see her own father act in such a manner. Yet, he didn’t earn his reputation for nothing. Caden tried his best to calm his nerves, though he felt to restless to fall asleep right of the bat. He pounderd on the situation, gave his prayers to those fallen…and to those who would have to face the next day.
The restless nature of his thoughts had made him sleep rather badly. And thus, once he got up, things were already stirred up outside of the village. He heard rumors of another attack, on none other than Mallach himself, though he was saved due to being under the watchful, yet mysterious eye of some other villager. It seemed a lot of factors had been at work here. Approaching he heard the request of Mallach for people to say where they were for this night. He had seen Aryn was feeling well now, under the care of the retired Seeker, who seemed intent to keep her from speaking up. A safe thing to do remembering the discussion from yesterday. Though there had been friction here as well, Mollandir accusing one of the other folk of spying on them. He would finally speak up, speaking up in a voice oud enough for everyone to hear “Blessed be the Creators, and may they have us under their care. Let them give us resolve to weather this storm, and the fortitude of the mind so that turn our blades against our foe’s, and not at ourselves … “. Lowering his voice, he turned to Mallach as he said “My Lord, I have spent the night in solitude mostly. Trying to mule over all that has happened. I asked to assist in the treatment of the sole survivor of the massacre, but I was met with…distrust by some of the military medics. I didn’t mean to cause more strife. I simply came to the city to do my duties as a member of the Order of the Sun. Hopefully we all will be able to return to our duties sooner than later”

The night was eventful, that was certain. The two partners convened earlier in one of the chambers at the inn, discussing what transpired. And, when Malavai and Raewynne entered the town square, both were disturbed to find evidence of more death; seems the woman who accused Sikes of treachery paid the ultimate price. It wasn't done by a bite or slash though, so the two were led to believe it was caused by a sword or weapon -- and she didn't turn, either. The two strolled up just as Mallach shared his tale and personal encounter, letting the information sink into their head for the discussion later.
Soon, Mallach thought it was best to initiate a 'where were you' questionnaire. Raewynne and Malavai exchanged quick glances towards one another but didn't speak up, as someone already offered to disclose their night first. Malavai stepped forward and Raewynne watched from her security (hood), crossing her arms. "Interjecting here, but, considering the events of yesterday, we found ourselves concerned... regarding the safety of Aryn -- Well, we figured that perhaps someone would potentially aim for Mallach's daughter, considering he sent someone innocent to their death. I didn't want her to pay for Mallach's mistake if someone was upset over yesterday's decision." Certainly Malavai put himself on the spot for saying that, but it was factual. If someone wanted to brand him as the enemy, then they'd be making a fatal mistake. Both Rae and Malavai knew Aryn from ceremonial parties and balls; they were relieved to see an acquaintance safe and sound. The two would never wish losing a daughter upon Mallach, after all, for his accidental misjudgment. Raewynne nodded to her friend, supportive in his claims. "I paid a visit to the Captain of the Bridgeburners, Bard. Mallach can confirm this. And, afterward, I was pacing and awaiting the results in my quarters at the inn. Like my counterpart here, I'm jovial to find your daughter safe and sound, Mallach."
Malavai and Raewynne merely awaited the responses of those gathered and still regrouping at the town square; surely, with this new information, someone had something to say.
(Note: Hope this works!)

Mollandir nodded toward the man who had offered protection, a motion of the head that seemed difficult for the former Seeker to do. "You have my thanks," the girl interjected before she could be stopped; someone had to step up and give the man a verbal thank-you -- it behooved both her and her protector to thank him in public.
Fortunately for the girl, though unfortunate as well, the attacks had not been upon her person. She looked around as people milled about, either grumbling to themselves about things or keeping quiet. "Surely," she questioned aloud. "This cannot be everyone who was here yesterday....Father, you cannot allow these people to leave while they are in harm's way!"
She turned to face her father directly at this, drawn up to her nonimpressive height, but bearing the command his line had bestowed upon her. "What...what if it spreads?!"
"Quiet, girl!" Mollandir grunted under his breath. "Did you not see what happened yesterday?"

"We do appear to be missing a face or two it would appear." He responded, noting the Seeker's objection to her speaking and frowned ever so slightly. "And like my daughter I wish to thank you for her protection, my lord." Rubbing his chin in thought he flicked his fingers toward Malavai and then Aryn. "Please, join me here will you.
"I'd like to speak to each of you privately."Turning to his guards he whispered that he would like a certain fellow whom he did not see in the crowd at the moment apprehended and brought before them. It was possible this man might be one of his furry attackers. He then turned his gaze back towards the others and offered a small smile.
"And while I cannot say I'd wish to reveal myself were I you, if the man whom held me captive last evening could in someway make himself known to me, I would very much like to thank him. And avoid possibly doing to him what was done to Mister Sikes."
(The man Mallach is referring to, the one to be brought forth is none other than... *dramatic pause and music* Absi! )

Post by Absi on Feb 4, 2015 21:10:19 GMT -8
Absi, absorbed in thought, strode towards those grouped. His eyes, inimitable in their blue-green shade, shifted about the ones presented before him, and listened to the exchange that took place, but did not inject his own words as of yet. Things around these parts were getting extreme; this he noted from the display of the dead bodies the day before, as well as the decapitation. He would do well to select his actions and words cautiously, for the wrong ones could bring a precipitous completion to what diminutive existence he was given. Nevertheless, he identified none here, minus those who had been spoken of, and was a foreigner amongst whatever those gathered had been with one another.
Alongside the probabilities, he understood he could be selected somewhere down the line, but dreaded it being by the act of execution verses being eradicated by the brutes. After all, Absi presented no threat, save for the massive blade--on his back--that remained enveloped for the most part. If he was to endure this entire nightmare, he would have to stand out, but remain concealed. He would have to pick a side, and stick with it. Thinking, for the most part, would become his best friend for as long as he could influence it. But why go through great lengths to forge a place for himself? Why not tell the truth? Simply put, he had no evidence to back him for the events of the night. Very little seemed to pay attention to him, and if they had, they would see the bags beneath his eyes, which would reveal the fact the tall man had received little sleep during the night.
His lips divided and he progressed to verbalize his peace, just when two others appeared before the group and gave a statement of their own. Ah, that was fascinating. The lips of his maw closed and he tapered his stare onto the unidentified male who spoke and then examined him up and down before he shook his cranium slightly. This alerted the inaudible alarms within the Mane of Chaos, Blacksword, for he was surrounded by the unknown, and not only that, but chess pieces would soon become too difficult to move on his own. He needed to find a group; he needed to find people who could trust in him. Besides, who among them would find it fair to avenge the life of the innocent? His bonds here were non-existent; however, he could not say the same for those gathered.
Absi paced forward with sluggish, tentative steps that were rather abnormal for a man of his size, only to have been stopped by the guards of the one who wielded Stormbringer, and nodded his head silently towards the guards, who did their job. Absi offered no struggles, even though he knew not how this would end.

Mhairyn pulled her elbow from Mollandir's grasp as she strode toward her father and left the Seeker to fume quietly in the very small grouping. She waited for things to progress, frustration growing inside; if her father was going to execute another innocent, she would interfere.

(Note: This is going to be short, sorry. D:)
Malavai and Raeywnne were debating things, simple enough. Each had accounted for their nights and affairs during dusk, the two just had to decode - more or less - who was telling the false story.
Personally, Raewynne thought that if Mallach was attacked by the werewolves during the night, it would rule out suspicion of him being a culprit. She couldn't fathom his daughter being a werewolf either -- and if she was asleep from unconscious the day before, would she have been able to prowl at night? She doubted so -- and the man who protected her... he didn't seem like he'd leave his post for one second; protecting Aryn was his mission. And, well, even if Mallach was jailed, he motioned for his guards to bring Absi. For a man to walk peacefully with the guards/scouts, that had to mean he had no qualms, wasn't panicked. She didn't want to think the man was one either, given the way he held himself as he entered the square -- least, it was a stride of a man who had no regrets. Wouldn't a werewolf cower or be fearful? She wasn't sure.
That left her suspicion on the man who mentioned 'equality of all people' the other day. "I toss my vote onto you, sir." She pointed to Jayne, arms then crossing her chest. If she needed to provide a reason, she would, but for now would await the reactions of those gathered -- surely some would gasp and glance in her direction.
Malavai, on the other hand, suspected the Medic who was met with distrust. "I cast my vote to the man of the Order. Surely they had a viable reason to feel suspicious? Like you were going to kill the man?" And, well, if vote came down to chance and 'sudden death', the two found it more reasonable to bear... They were really only hoping they were making a right decision. If another innocent faced the guillotine... just... they didn't want to think about it.

While she stood beside her father, Mhairyn listened to the others speak; in general, she was not allowed in council for any decisions made, save the two that we put on by the Order as she chose her colors, and while she had an idea of how to act, she didn't know for sure. Which explained her outburst towards Malavai as he pointed the finger towards the object of her heart's desire. "Wh-what?! You can't!" she exclaimed, turning to face the ne'erdowell who had so unbearably dishonored her heart.
She whipped back around to her father, raising her finger to point toward Malavai. "Father! Please! You can't let them do this!" She turned to face Malavai again, catching her Seeker's attentions as she did so. "You have no right!" Back to Mallach: "Father! Please!" Tears streamed down her face, as her eyes danced wildly between Malavai, Mallach, and then to Caden.
"Tell them," she pleaded, lowering her voice to a whisper. "Tell them it isn't so.... Please, I beg of you...." If she had to, Mhairyn was prepared to drop to her knees, then and there, to beg for Caden's life; the sense of justice she had before, when she was steeling herself to take Absi's place, was gone, replaced by naive selflessness.
Mollandir, meanwhile, bit the inside of his cheek, held his tongue, and stayed his blade; this was the girl's battle now, not his. Oh Mhairyn, you fool.

Jayne's eyes blinked ever so slightly as one of the people in the area pointed at him, accusing him of being a werewolf. "Preposterous my lady." Jayne said, turning to face is accuser. "I wasn't even near the area yet when the battle took place two nights ago. I came upon the travesty of that field and this town by chance and wanted to help. This is how I am repaid? With death? I don't think so. You cannot tell me that not one of us at some point in the night at the inn has had some time alone to do a dastardly deed like attack the Commander here." Jayne ended, shifting his being around then walking a couple paces towards Raewynne. "Unless you have a reason for your vote you would like to share with everyone. I am willing to hear it, but until you retract your vote or explain it, I cast mine on you." he quipped, standing at attention, his own arms folded to mirror hers.

In Mallach's experience, even the gentlest of folk could truly be monsters in disguise, in this case quite literally. He however had no say this time around, he for one was held captive and felt that if he were to cast a vote this day, it would seem, well rather selfish (more so as his last one cost an innocent man his life. That said said innocent was also willing to take Mallach's so tit for tat.)
"Mhairyn." He spoke softly, and gripped his daughter in both hands firmly, but gentle upon her shoulders and looked deeply into her wet eyes. "Steel yourself child. It is possible he could be a beast and not realize it.. Or is indeed a shepard whom feeds upon his flock." He offered her no smile of sympathy, but those eyes of his spoke the words he knew he could not make publicly. He had a duty to hand out the king's justice at the request of the people, and he could not allow his personal feelings to guide that sense of duty.
She would simply have to do the same.
"Absi" he spoke without looking at him. His gaze not once leaving his daughter."Your whereabouts of last evening. Speak truthful and quick lad, your life may possibly depend on it."

Absi stared the man down when he spoke to him. How disrespectful that was for him to speak and not have the nerve to meet the figure's gaze. His life would depend on his answer? Speak truthfully? "Is that so," came from the parted lips of Absi's maw, and he soon shifted to balance his footing against the ground beneath him. "You disrespect me by not looking to me, and demand that I speak truthfully, as if I would lie in the first place, and then inform me my life is on the line." Anger would well within the figure of the Descendant of Obscurity, but he would contain it for the most part; however, it made him not care much about the person before him. Regardless, he said, "I was out and about last night, unable to sleep during the night, and in fact was planning on trying to sleep in the inn." His words were truthful--in a way--so he had no reason to show lie upon his features. If the man before him thought he knew the truth, then it would be one word verses the other. He then rose his shoulders in the form of a shrug and said, "If you want to point fingers, point it towards that man. " He nodded his head in the direction of Caden and said, "Who chooses to spend their time alone when something like this could happen? After all, this is a time of fear. Any one of us could be next."
[Sorry about that; figured I should vote since I did not last time!]
