Appearance:
Hotaru stands 5'5" tall and has long multicolored hair, that she keeps tied back at the top of her head, of brown, blond and red hues. She has blue eyes and most usually wears black robes, cinched high upon her abdomen with a white obi, and carries her katana sheathed at her side. She wears a scarf round her neck that trails down her back that has red, yellow and orange colors upon it. Her feet are clad in Waraji Sandals with white Tabi socks.

Personality:
Hotaru has an energetic personality though is prone to periods of silent reflection. While she enjoys the company of others, she focuses her talents on her profession constantly being unsatisfied with her skill in healing. It is her one passion and, concerning this area, one could say she is driven or obsessive.
History:
Hotaru was born before the formation of Seireitei and lived within a community whose main focus was upon survival. She developed skills in the identification and uses of vegetation collected in the wilds. Later on in life she turned her hand to cultivation and settled down in a farming community for about 120 years. There she gained further skill in her chosen field until a large Hollow incursion wiped out nearly all the inhabitants.
Retreating into seclusion, she turned her mind to developing her inner powers and at the age of 207 she learned the name of her Zanpakutō, Mutsumi. The process was frustrating at best and several times she nearly gave it up as a lost cause. However this was not to be her fate and after defeating Mutsumi in battle, she was able to tap into her powers. Eventually she began living among people once more and helped in the building of Seireitei and took the name of Shinigami. There she picked up her love of horticulture and began experimenting with harvest yields, resistance to disease and increasing nutritional content.
It was quite the blessing to her to know her work would be protected within this fortified area. However, when discord began to turn into open resentment causing many of her colleagues to leave Seireitei, she refused to accompany them believing that her work was too important to risk it in the unprotected districts of Rukongai. As time progressed, her natural inclination toward healing through the use of herbs drew her toward the medical corps and at the age of 1423, she joined the Gotei Five, Division Two. Eventually she became Fukutaicho for the medical division where she continues in her horticultural endeavors when she is not occupied with her Shinigami duties.

Division Skill:
Chiyudo [2/4] - As medics, those in the Second Division are trained to create healing energy from their reiatsu. How effective the treatment is depends on the user's Reiatsu Skill Tier. At Tier One, the most they can do is heal minor scrapes and bruises. Tier Two allows for repairing deeper cuts and small fractures. Those with Tier Three can tend to broken bones, deep gashes, and minor burns. Finally, at Tier Four, a medic can heal most injuries just short of fatal. Regular treatment skill tends to go hand in hand with the user's skill level as some injuries must be tended to with a combination of both.

Horticulture: Hotaru uses her knowledge to improve propagation and cultivation for the purpose of improving nutrition, resistance to insects and disease, as well as quality and quantity of yields. She uses her skill in cultivation for culinary and medicinal purposes which includes the use of items from her own garden as well as those roots and herbs she gathers from the Second District Forests.

Mutsumi is 5'10" tall and in shades of brown and green. He wears trousers tucked into knee high boots and has metallic gauntlets upon both forearms. His hair is grey and shoulder length which is obscured underneath some sort of winged head dress with horns that curve up above his head in a bovine manner. His brown cloak has a high collar that fans out about his shoulders while his under vest is buckled with two straps round his neck.
His personality is quiet and reserved which is in direct contrast to his fighting ability. He often frustrates and provokes Hotaru into revealing her impatient and inner violent nature in which he takes perverse delight. One of his infuriating habits is never opening his eyes and as yet Hotaru is unsure if he possesses any.
Inner World:
The inner world is an endless sea of virgin timber beneath which a near labyrinthine network of pathways cut beneath the canopy intersecting and diverging from one another.
Sealed:
Mutsumi's sealed form is of a 70cm long katana wholly unadorned save for the maroon colored wrappings about the hilt. The single-edged blade is slightly curved with a circular guard and long grip that can accommodate the placement of two hands. The sheath is also of this same color and he is worn belted at Kotaru's left side.
