Roughly three centuries prior to the start of the story, Daidouji Malik's mother, Jasumin, took a trip into the Rukongai to distribute food, clean water and clothes to those whom needed it. What she saw in the outer districts shocked and appalled her, how the Gotei could allow things to get so bad. It was then she decided to make a difference.
In the northern 64th District she bought a plot of land and began construction on perhaps the biggest building many this far from the white wall had ever seen. It wasn't easy, but in the end it was well worth it as the two story, 800 square foot residence was completed and opened to those in need. It is lined with a five foot wooden wall and has a single gate. Inside these walls lies a garden for the inhabits own source of food, along with well for clean water. The building itself is made out of oak lumber and is stained in a clear finish.
Here, Daidouji Jasumin and others from the Daidouji family would start both a school and lodging for those less fortunate, where they would be educated, properly clothed and fed if need be. It became known as the Daidouji Orphanage, though none were truly adopted into any family here, making it a halfway house in truth.
Its gates are open to all of those who seek to live in a crime free and safe environment and from time to time serve as a lodging to those Shinigami on patrol in the further out districts.
