Profile Information
Name: Yagurashi Sei
Alias: Sei-Sei no Kuri-na-rei
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Faction: Spiritually Aware Human
Rank: Demon Slayer
Reiatsu Color: Indigo
Reiatsu Aura: As if bathed in a cleansing pool of water; as if the deepest evil within your body is purged from you.
Appearance: Clad in dark blue robes, he wears the outer sash of a traveling monk of pure black. Unlike monks however, he does not have a shaved head, despite having learned the teachings of Buddhism growing up. Instead, his dark black locks are kept neat underneath a sort of bandana, with the majority of it covering his right eye. The visible eye retains the color of his reiatsu, a brilliant and vibrant indigo color. Often he carries the staff of his trade upon his back, or in his hand, and has two sets of rosary beads wrapped up around his hands and cloth covering them.
In truth however, his robes hide the uniform of a demon slayer, a form fitting kimono with short sleeves, retaining the rosaries now over his arms. He also wears a pair of armor pads over his shoulders, and around his neck, acting as a sort of collar. In addition to his uniform, he also wears hard leather knuckles of sorts. This demon slayer uniform of sorts is rarely seen when he is not on the job.
Personality: He often acts as if he is laid-back, being relaxed and waiting, and also optimistic, easy-going seemingly, teasing at times, and also, rather observant and clever. Underneath his front of acting laid-back, he is still observant and clever, but also focused and ready for action. Most infamous of his traits, is his rather blunt manner of speaking where his profession is concerned, dealing with haunting spirits, and of course, Hollows, which are seen by him as demons in his trade.
In combat, he has a rather unusual smile, not light, but shaded with darkness, giving him an eerie appearance. He likes a good fight, but he is not one to draw it out. If the fight is about to end, he will end it, and not hold back. The best way to describe it is a rather vigilant hunter and destroyer of evil.
Outside of combat, he often shows an affinity for nature, specifically, trees, namely, those that are often known for their holy properties. In essence, it is a respect towards life, as he sees trees as being symbols of life and light. Often he prefers to carry some cedar wood on him, due to the smell, as well as sakaki leaves. A mix of his heritage and training within a monastery, and also due to the teachings of the monks and his mother.
History: At an early age, his mother, a devout priestess, raised him on her own, his father having left his family to their own devices in the monastery. Despite being left without a father figure, he discovered his father figures in the monks and priests who also lived in the monastery, and grew up to be a healthy boy.
Yet, it was at the young ripe age of eight, as he was studying under his mother's tutelage, that his power truly awakened. Before then, whether it was a result of his mother being a miko of rather high caliber, or it was the fact he never seemed to be sad at funerals, he had a high awareness of the spiritual world. He would tread carefully at the shrines of Inari, stare at thin air with almost a frightening gaze, and seem to anticipate when demons were supposedly around.
When Sei turned eight, he seemed to awaken, in the form of a sudden transformation. It was during a pilgrimage to a sister monastery, while his little cousin was straying from the campsite, that he went after her. As he searched high and low for her, finding her playing underneath a tree, his eyes suddenly began to burn. He could feel something etching itself into his very eye, a great burning feeling coming up from deep within his body. There was a demon coming, he could feel it, sense it's presence, but he didn't know how. It was naught but a moment or so later that his right eye completely burned with a holy light, and the ground shook tremendously. He froze in place as the awakening finished, his eye burning as he slowly lifted his gaze up and stared.
In front of him was none other than a large demon, almost like an Oni, but with a wicked mask of a devil. It's arms were like massive tree trunks, it's legs that of giant stone buddhas, and most terrifying, was the foul energy it seemed to radiate. His poor cousin was unaware of the large demon standing up over her, and there was only the sudden urging of an inner voice to grab his cousin, before she was crushed underneath a massive fist. The demon reared it's head back, and let out a massive roar, heard by the spiritually aware members of his monastery, including his own mother. She quickly ordered him to run to safety while the rest used what powers they had to try and subdue the beast.
Sei could only watch with his terrified cousin in his arms as his mother and uncle fired strange arrows off their bows, sending reiatsu charged bolts at the beast. Another monk tried to use some kind of burning punch on the beast's legs; in all, it was a chaotic display of spiritual powers and abilities. And yet, Sei felt the voice inside of him grow louder and louder as the fight drew on, and finally, as he set his cousin down the voice shouted at him. The strange voice demanded he take action to aid his family and monastery as he picked up a lone and fallen bow piece from his uncle's destroyed bow. With the weapon in hand, he clenched it tightly within his hand, and without warning, tried to stab the beast in the leg.
His mother and uncle along with the rest of the group stared in shock as the beast let out a pain filled screech. A glowing blade of spiritual energy was protruding from where Sei had stabbed his wooden weapon into it's flesh. More surprising was that as he removed the weapon, the beast's leg seemed to burn and smoke as if being exposed to some kind of purifying effect. Without hesitation, his mother notched an arrow to her bow, and fired a single lone shot into the Hollow's mask, shattering it from the force. Sei did not see the shot, as the strain of his sudden awakening and the use of the strange weapon caused him to pass out, unable to handle the strain upon his body.
For several days he slept, until finally he woke up in the sister monastery, with his mother knelt down beside him, her bow present on her back. To Sei's surprise, his vision was still altered, he could see a great aura around his mother, and he winced in pain at his head. His mother eased him back down upon his mat, and began to explain what had happened.
Within her family, they had an extremely potent ability and gift for sensing and seeing spirits, to the point that there was always one member of the next generation at least who was born with a special power. His mother was given the power to bless her arrows to give them the power to hit demons and more, while his uncle could do the same, but to a different degree. Others in the monastery had different abilities, but all of them were aware of the existence of the demon that he had seen, a Hollow. Then, his mother explained that as he had awakened his own power, he would begin training to learn how to control and harness it, and most of all, discover why he was the only one in the family since one of their earliest ancestors to have a marked eye.
And so, years passed by and Sei learned the ways of his family. How to use his reiatsu, how to summon his power without the need for the situation and luck. He even discovered more about his own lineage and as well, discovered the full extent of his power as far as he could. During this time, he gained experience in defeating and slaying Hollows, to see ghosts, and how to grant them peace of mind and spirit. That was not all he learned, but also the ways of his monastery, to exorcise evil spirits and how to detect them. He also developed remarkable physical prowess to complement his spiritual ability, that required physical action to be properly utilized. This included the art of Bojutsu, the use of a staff in combat, extending into the basics of martial arts, Hung Gar to be precise.
It was during his physical training that he learned a rather powerful skill, utilizing great control over his strength to perform a penetrating punch. While no damage would be done visibly, internally, the organs and bones could suffer. If not for his training, he would have broken his uncle's arm in the process. As well as learning this penetrating punch, he also gained awareness of his body further. Not just his spirit itself, and spiritual energy but his bloodstream and circulatory system. Through this, he learned how to harness the rush of adrenaline in times of flight-or-fight, choosing the former and discovering great strength. This strength however, would not last, but could be maintained once he tapped into the surge of adrenaline.
As the time passed more and more, he learned as much as he could, developing his ability as far as he could. His power grew over time as well, and upon his eighteenth birthday, he was allowed to travel the land, though only under the guise of a priest. It was an emotional departure for his cousin, who had come to look up to her spiritually aware brother-figure. His mother gave him a special staff for him to use in conjunction with his spiritual powers, and her blessing. With a smile and a nod, he hugged his family before he turned, and began his journey, traveling the land in search of the secrets to the purpose of his gift.
Over two years, he gained a reputation against as a Demon-Slayer, becoming known as Sei-Sei no Kuri-na-rei. It is no coincidence that he wears the clothes of a monk in a light sense to merely compliment the fact that he is a demon slayer (Hollows that is) and to pay homage to his heritage. His eyes grew sharper, his powers grew, and as of today, he is beginning his journey home, to see how his family is doing...
