Profile Information
Name: Shigemitsu Shigeo
Gender: Male
Age: 168
Faction: Shinigami
Rank: Third Division, 5th Seat
Reiatsu Color: Navy Blue
Reiatsu Aura: Shigeo's reiatsu will cause those under its pressure to suffer from a sense of imminent panic; a stark contrast to the man's near-constant stoicism and collected behavior.
Appearance:
A veritable titan, Shigeo's enormous frame towers over most others at 6'7" and close to 260 pounds of muscle. He tends to wear a grim expression, his steel blue eyes similarly stoic, and keeps his long hair tied back in a loose ponytail.
Personality: Shigeo is a man devoted to the idea of perfect order in the world, and is willing to go to any lengths to preserve it. Believing strength to the best method to achieve his desire, he hones his skills at every opportunity, forgoing any attempts at building friendships with others as he views it as, quite simply, a waste of time; in fact, social situations are among the only times he will become visibly uncomfortable. He carries out nearly all of his duties with almost machine-like efficiency, seeking the quickest path to completion.
Shigeo's stature and general demeanor might, to the casual observer, give the impression of an unthinking neanderthal; however, the truth is quite the opposite. Hiding behind the man's cold gaze is a sharp, cunning intellect, often applied in battle to great effect; feints and counters factor heavily into Shigeo's style of swordsmanship, and he has been found to have a knack for observing a foe in combat and then turning some of their skills against them.
History: Shigeo's earliest memories are of growing up in the upper section of Rukongai's lower class, living on his own. His mother died giving birth, and his father ran out on him shortly after his seventh birthday. To get by, Shigeo took what odd jobs he could; though many other children he saw would simply steal food or money from unsuspecting citizens, Shigeo felt in the back of his mind that behavior of that sort is something that forms into a habit easily, and he didn't wish to be stuck as a common street rat forever. Every now and again, he would see one of the Shinigami from the Seireitei troop though, and he never failed to feel a thrill of excitement and awe every time: these were the souls to admire, to look up to; theirs were the ideals one should follow -- protection of others and the preservation of balance and order.
Shigeo's few friends laughed at him when he confided in them his hope to become a Shinigami; undaunted, the young man threw himself into a (what seemed to him) strict training regimen, practicing for hours on end every day with a crudely carved branch as a sword. Oftentimes he would rope his unwilling friends into practicing with him; eventually, they began refusing, their reasons being that Shigeo was "too damn good", and they were tired of going home with bruises covering their bodies.
And for a simple citizen, this was true; Shigeo was showing a knack for swordsmanship rarely seen in the Rukongai. What Shigeo didn't know is that he was also beginning to reveal a small, but steadily growing reserve of reiryoku. As he passed his 103rd birthday -- not that he was counting, few do after some point-- he was surprised when a Shinigami, one of his heroes, approached him with an offer of proper training at the Academy. Apparently, his growing reiatsu stood out from the largely powerless citizens, and had drawn attention; in addition, though unbeknownst to the untrained youth, the Goteijusantai were desperate to fill their ranks following the devastating war against the Hollows. Without hesitation, Shigeo accepted, and was promptly brought to the academy for the entry exam: a measure of one's reiatsu, to see if they possess the potential for becoming a Shinigami proper. Without much trouble, Shigeo passed the test, and found himself one step further along the path of a Shinigami.
His days at the academy were rather unremarkable: Shigeo showed great aptitude in Zanjutsu and adapted to Kidō quite swiftly, but his Hakuda skills were lamentable, despite his best efforts and the extra classes he put in. Nonetheless, he graduated in the upper half of his class, being given his asauchi and assigned to the combat division. As the years passed, Shigeo's skills and determination to improve saw him rise through the ranks at a steady pace, until he became the division's 5th seat.
