Profile Information
Name: Kaganashi Harupia
Gender:Male
Age: 320
Faction: Shinigami
Rank: Research and Development 3rd Seat
Reiatsu Color: Lime Green
Reiatsu Aura: The feeling of sorrow for Harupia, like you just want to go and give him a big hug.
Appearance:
Standing at a 5.9 feet, and weighing about 150 pounds, Harupia ain't a true specimen of an athletic male, but he's as fit as a good soldier of SS should be. Not much would be standing out in him, besides his black hair, unkempt on the front but tied into a pony-tail at the back, but due to events of the past, his appearance is truly different than most of the Shinigami. All of his skin looks as if it was from a lizard, having a slightly greenish color, with visible scales all across it. His eyes also share the reptile like look, being huge and yellow, with jis ireses looking like thick black stripes rather then. Other features of this transformation are his teeth, which are all inhumanly pointy and sharp, and his finger nails, longer and curved, looking more like short claws. To hide these differences, he wears a shihakushō hiding quite a lot of his presence, with long enough sleeves to hide his hands, and a hood to cover his face. Underneath he wears a balaclava like piece of cloth, which serves to cover his face.
Personality: Harupia never was the most talkative person, and his condition doesn't help any with that. Usually he tries to avoid lengthy conversations with people, and when in one he tries his best to cover his body from view. Mostly because of his bodies condition, but even before, he was always a shy, quiet person, who prefers to keep to himself. Once he starts talking though, he comes of as a really nice person. Clam, a good listener, respectful, polite, all the good stuff, though his sense of humor is a bit lacking. He can also get slightly defensive is someone keeps disagreeing with what he thinks or says, unless he is showed with sufficient proof that he is indeed mistaken. Earlier in his life he was also modest, although being told of having a pretty attractive look after the experiment, his look simply became a subject he avoids at all costs.
All in all, Harupia is a calm and collected individual, hardly ever losing his cool whether on duty, in battle, or in his leisure time. The only real thing that bothers him is people talking about his condition. While he has quite a bit of patience, pushing on too hard may cause him to explode at the other people, either verbally or, although rarely, physically.
Harupia for the most part prefers to be left alone, focusing on whatever activity he can get his hands on. Playing instruments, reading, writing, anything peaceful, which he can do in solitude for the most time. His favorite pastime is his work though. He is not only highly intelligent, even compared to his colleagues from the R&D, but he has genuine interest in science work. The world is like one big puzzle to him, one he wants to solve, and then bring down to its basic components. Talking to him about his work is the best way to get him to socialize, as he could talk endlessly about the object of his work.
Along with his love for science goes his ambition. Ever since his days in the Rukongai, he strove for a better life for himself, and he keeps on fighting to gain recognition for his actions, especially as a way to divert the attention from his looks. While ambitious, he isn't exactly prideful. He can accept the fact someone is better then him at some field; it will either push him harder to surpass the person, or just lead him to accept he reached a limit, though the second part is mainly about physical feats. He was never much of a sportsman or fighter, he came to accept that. His goal is to be so good in other fields, no one will care about the rest. If he feels he can achieve better results in any field though, he will do all in his might to do so.
History:
Harupia's life was pretty uneventful during the time as a human. Just a simple farm life in the outskirts of Osaka; he was always liked, ready to lend a helpful hand, a nice guy all round and as some girls insisted, an attractive one. While usually not really daring enough to pursue such attractions, there was one girl to which he returned the affection he was given to him, not only physical, but also on a more intellectual level, as the girl was much more refined than him, having learned to read and write, and with access to books he would never even hear of in the countryside; while this infatuation was probably the best thing that happened to him, it is so only because it was soon followed by his death. Turns out the girl was a daughter of a rich land-lord, and she had many suitors, one which did not appreciate her spending her time with a peon like him and rid her of the problem by promptly stabbing him through the guy. And such ends the story of the silly farm's men named Harupia, awakening after the event, seeing himself chained to the ground, he was utterly confused, then came the men in dark robes, the Shinigami and thus began his new life in the Rukongai.
Being used to hard work in his normal life, he found himself quite well in the new environment. He lived in a district close to the walls of the Great Soul Society, so it was peaceful. His hardworking attitude and bright mind helped a lot in his community, granting him the acceptance and friendship of most of its members. Still, it wasn't enough for the young soul anymore.
Ever since a human, Harupia was a curious individual. Being born in the typical, farmer family in Japan, he didn't have much of a chance of education. Still, from the scraps of books and scrolls he could get his hands on, and through simple observation of his surroundings, he simply learned as much as he could. His Rukon life looked similar, but a bit easier as he was quite a useful person for his community, doing any sorts of handiwork he could, learning fast and being a very crafty person in general. With all that, he could afford to get some good conditioned reading material from time to time. And this new world held even greater secrets then he ever imagined, the awe inspiring Shinigami, and the fear striking Hollow. Harupia just wanted to get a chance to know all this closer, to examine it; his curiosity going haywire. Also, there was something noble, a sense of power and pride in the Shinigami. Harupia felt that this new life was a chance for him to truly flourish and even some of his friends said he had a chance even, as after a few years he started to hunger, a sign of Spiritual Power, which lead to the potential of Shinigami taking an interest of him. So Harupia waited, working and learning as much as he could in the Rukongai, while trying to seek out advice and start to do any sort of training that could make him any bit stronger; while he didn't have anything against the people or the area he lived in, he had enough of the life of a insignificant peon even in his life, he would do his best to snatch the chance and show just how good he could be.
And so they did, but not as he'd imagine; one night, coming back home from his work, a band of masked people attacked and subdued him. The next thing he knew, he awoke inside some dark room, barely seeing anything because of a bright white light blinding him; around him were figures with dark robes, just as those the Shinigami wore and then he felt a small ping of pain on his arm, turning to see the grinning, sleazy face of a man in glasses. The next few months, as he later found out, were spent mostly like this, the flashes of what he remember consisting of being fed and given water, laying around cells, seeing other individuals locked up as he, and the periodic strikes of pain, as if his skin was being ripped apart. And one more thing, though he wasn't sure if those weren't just nightmares, a booming voice calling out to him from pitch black darkness, telling him to stand up, to fight on, that Harupia was not worthy of him if he would die now... and the blurry image of some creature in the darkness.
As far fetched it might seem, the coaching the voice gave to him was enough of a push for him to endure all of the pain and torment he went through. It took some time, but finally salvation came, once again the man in dark robes coming to his aid; waking up some time latter in the 4th Division, he was met by the Shinigami for some questioning. After telling them all he could remember, stuttering slightly in his speech which never happened before, they explained he was kidnapped by a member of the Research and Development division, who conducted experiments using unknowing Rukongai members as subjects. As they spoke, Harupia couldn't help but to notice the weird stares some of the Shinigami were giving him; asking just what exactly happened to him, one of them hesitantly, but finally gave him a mirror. While maybe not loud enough to pierce through the heavens or anything dramatic like that, Harupia's scream was loud enough to draw attention of the staff closest to his room.
If no one knew better, they might have thought he was some kind of Hollow. His skin, now all greenish and covered in scales, his eyes looking like they were ripped out of a reptiles head; he even had the teeth and a tongue of a reptile, longer, constantly trying to slip out of his mouth as he spoke. While he truly never cared much about his appearance, he knew this was a bad thing; he couldn't really imagine life in the Rukongai, facing his former friends with a look like this, but as it turned out, he wouldn't need to. The Shinigami, having sensed spiritual energy within him, offered him the chance to enroll into the Academy, as a form of compensation for what was done to him. He was warned he would not be treated any lightly because of it though. Still, being faced with the choice of facing discrimination while fulfilling his dream, or risking so back in the Rukongai as a anonymous Plus, the choice was obvious.
After a few days of rest, he was enrolled into the academy. The first few days were harsh, as it turned out that his physical condition still wasn't at its top after his long imprisonment and rest, and even that aside, he always knew he had little talent for combat using his muscles. But after the first days of physical tests and lessons came the things which required more subtle abilities and as it turned out, he never lacked an any of those. Kidō was a thing he liked, using his inner powers to destructive effect rather then relying on pure muscles. But the more theoretical lessons were his forte. History, science, the explanation of how the worlds worked, the knowledge about Hollow, Reiatsu... he took it in all like a sponge. While his grades in combat were never top notch, when it came to Kidō and tests, he was pretty much the top of his class. It also helped that he had a lot of time to study, not really having much of a social life, he really didn't want to risk the ridicule coming from the noble family kids, or anyone who would be prone to make fun of his appearance; he was made fun of enough as it was as he walked around the school grounds in a face concealing cloths, which was approved by the headmaster after explanation of his condition. He simply kept to himself, coming to lessons and studying hard for them, and then trying to find out even more, consuming the books within the library one by one.
As time passed, he also passed through the academy with not too much difficulty, though the mediocrity of his combat abilities left a bit to be desired. Still, he was praised for his accomplishments in other fields. To those who knew anything about his story, his choice of the R&D as his new division came as a mix of shock that he'd want to go back to a place which such traumatic events came to happen, and the realization that this was the only truly good place for him. After being accepted into its midst, he threw himself into the line of work. Still concealing most of his appearance, he focused on working, taking up as many tasks he could possibly handle, intent on proving he belonged in this place. The whole turmoil caused by the acts of their found Rikou, had made him fear the institute would be closed down; luckily, that was not the case. That allowed him ample time to work on any projects that came back, allowing him to slowly but surely climb up the ladder of the Division. After over 200 years in the division by now, Harupia was secure in his position as the 3rd Seat of the now merged 9th and 12th divisions; he cared little for organization, what he cared about is continuing his science work, hopefully finding a way to reverse the condition his skin was, as all his work was, put into him mind, he had little time to try and unlock his Zanpakuto's potential, but it was a nagging thing at the back of his head; he hoped the day his spirit came to speak with him would come sooner then later...
