Profile Information
Name: Hazama Saito
Gender: Male
Age: 776
Faction: Shinigami
Rank: Fourth Division Captain
Reiatsu Color: Purple
Reiatsu Aura: Calm and cool indifference
Appearance: Fairly tall for a person of asian descent, Saito is slightly over 5'10", and has a slender build. He has short black hair, which he keeps swept back out of his eyes, and a pair of small glasses with thin rims, mostly for reading, but he often forgets them, and they remain sitting on his face for the entire day. His skin is fair from a great deal of time spent inside, and his eyes are a deep green in color. His fingers are long and nimble, allowing him to perform surgery easily, and with great dexterity.
Personality: While somewhat calm and cool in appearance, he is actually rather gruff and abrasive. Despite his rank and division putting him in a position where he has to tend to the wounded and provide care for patients, he actually has very little interest in dealing with people, let alone their personal problems. A medical problem, he will work tirelessly to solve, but his 'bedside manner' could certainly use some work, as he is often quite blunt about not having any care or interest in the person him or herself. Fortunately, his skill as a medical practitioner has made him indespensible enough that they haven't bothered looking for a friendlier replacement. His dislike of dealing with people, and his rank forcing him to do so, leaves him with a near constant headache caused by stress and irritation that he regularly medicates himself for with a variety of pills. He also has a penchant for sewing.
History: Hazama's human years were spent with a wealthy merchant family that had made great success in the fabric industry, primarily silks. He grew in comfort, and his family was loving and kind. No great misfortunes befell them, and he had many friends, whom he cared for dearly. He was a well-adjusted child, if somewhat spoiled by his loving parents. He studied hard in business so he could learn to take over the industry for his father. Sadly, however, those plans were cut short when he was diagnosed with cholera, and took very ill. It was a great tragedy for the family, to see such a prominent young man with a bright future take so ill so quickly. It was sudden and unexpected, and the despite the doctors that the family hired, Saito passed away some weeks later. The funeral was large, and it seemed that the entire town was present. He had lived a good life, however, and passed peacefully in to the next world with a Shinigami guide.
Once he was settled in Rukongai, with no memory of his human life, his personality began to change. He grew bored, disinterested, and generally irritated with the people around him and their menial problems. It seemed, in his mind, that he was destined for greater things. Certainly, his life in the upper districts was comfortable enough, but it wasn't enough for him. He wanted a challenge, something to work on. Not that he would have remembered, but he had lived his entire human life in comfort, never having to face any real challenges. Perhaps, subconsciously, his death had changed him, making him desire more out of his existence. He began to study books and scriptures that he came across, absorbing knowledge to pass the time. His memory was sharp, and he caught on to new things quickly. Over time, he found himself drawn more and more towards medical texts and anatomy, growing greatly interested in the subject.
It was during one of his trips to the library in one of the upper districts when he passed a Shinigami patrol. He saw them often enough, but this time, it seemed that the leader of the patrol took notice of him. The Shinigami stopped him on the street, asking him his name. As this was interrupting his thought, he was rather irritated, and blatantly told the group off before continuing on his way. They were more determined than he had anticipated, however, and pursued him, questioning him constantly. Finally, he gave up, hoping that acknowledging them and answering their questions would speed them on their way. When he had responded to all of their tiresome queries, however, he was informed that he would be coming with them for his own safety; He had a strong Reiatsu that was slowly starting to trickle out, and as such, he must be taken in and trained as a Shinigami. The news came as a surprise to him, but not an unwelcome one. After all, what better way to face new challenges and gather new knowledge?
His time in the academy saw mixed success. He learned his footwork, swordplay and combat well enough, even if only by virtue of memory and repition. He didn't have an astounding talent for it, but that was due, in part, to his lack of interest in the subject. Where he thrived, however, were academics. In fields that he was comfortable with, such as Kidō and medicine, he saw astonishing success. He was confident, assertive, and even somewhat aggressive with his knowledge, even going so far as to correct his teachers on numerous occasions, getting in to heated arguments over things like the spread of various viruses, or the chemical composition of toxins. He graduated ahead of schedule, his incredible grades in the academic fields compensating for his merely decent grades in swordplay, and led him straight in to a Division.
He recieved offers from the Twelfth and Fouth divisions, as well as the Kidō Corps, but his interest in medicine made it an obvious choice. It took him very little time to obtain a seated position, and he worked his way swiftly up through the ranks (swiftly in Shinigami terms). Within a century, he had attained a Fukutaichō rank, and served there for a further century. Time seemed to pass differently, and the hundred years blew by rapidly. His Captain, who had server for many centuries, eventually retired from his position, leaving Saito with the best qualifications to replace him. He stepped up to the position with the same attitude that he had worked his way through the ranks with; Determined, but level headed.
His time as head of the Medical division brought him a great deal of experience, and his skills grew exponentially with each new task he took on. While he did a great deal of administrative work, he prefered to take the 'hands on' approach, performing surgery, healing, research and testing himself, staying involved with the affairs of the Division. Building upon his existing reputation as an anti-social and abrasive genius, he guides his Division to success, and does his best to keep hearts beating and limbs attached in the Shinigami ranks.
