[Mini-Events]Mini-events are threads started by mods which are intended to provide a problem or conflict that creates some form of interaction for a faction or multiple factions. These types of events are independent from the plot and do not feature any plot items or characters. There is no limit to what can happen, though most of what does happen can be considered AU and is intended to be a change from the norm to provide some degree of enjoyment.[Signup Events]
The number of characters who can participate is often limited to under ten to keep the event small and easier for the mods to work with. Posting rules vary from mod to mod, but in general one can expect to need to post about every 24 hours. Because mini-events tend to be less high risk than plot events, the rewards from them are less than those one might receive in a plot event, but still greater than normal threads depending on a character's level of participation. In most cases, a Mini Event does not take one of your Present Thread SlotsSignup events are a special type of event in which people who want to participate must sign up in the designated thread. They are typically Alternate Universe type threads that have no bearing on the characters or plot. Signup threads tend to be done around holidays with a corresponding theme though they are occasionally done to pass time between bigger events or to give out special rewards. Signup events can be done in one main thread or separated into individual threads to make it more manageable for the mods. Posting rules can vary, but they tend to follow the 'at least one post per every 24 hours' rule. Signup events can yield greater rewards than normal threads depending on a character's participation, but they give much less than the other types of events. Since signup events are considered alternate universe type threads, they do not impede on your current number of threads.[Field Events]Field events occur in member created threads. This can be done at random to give members the sense of how dangerous the environment around them actually is, to deal with violation of the rules, to further parts of the plot, or to give out special staff issued items. The frequency of field events is directly tied with the number of ongoing threads created by members as well as the thread turnover rate (one thread ending and members joining new ones). Because they were initially member created threads, the posting rule follows the standard three day leniency, however, once the mod posts, no more characters can join the thread. Like all types of events, field events provide greater rewards than regular thread depending on the level of a character's participation. As field events were once a regular thread, they do take up one of your thread slots.[Plot Events]Plot events are exactly what the name suggests: events that transpire to establish and further the overall plot of the site. Plot events tend to be fast pace, high risk threads with many characters involved. They feature reoccurring NPCs with power and abilities far beyond normal NPCs. Most plot events are done in a manner to make them available to all of the factions, but some may be done for specific factions to further certain key points of a plot. Some plot threads are considered to have sub-plots, so while they contribute to the overall plot, they may have their own plot that continues in a small series of events.[Monthly Rewards and Bonuses]
There is no limit to how many characters can join, though as mentioned before, some plot events may be faction specific. The posting rules for all plot events are the same; you must post 24 hours after the last mod post, however, unlike any other thread, there is no posting order, enabling everyone to get their posts in without having to wait on someone else unless their character is directly interacting with another, though if the other person has not posted in time, the person who was waiting may skip them. Since plot events are considered to be high risk there is a greater reward for them than any other event thread depending on the level of a character's participation. Plot threads generally will have no impact on your thread slots, unless otherwise noted.Like most places, AK has a system of rules and punishment for not following rules, but we don't want to focus on the bad, which is why we offer a variety of rewards for being active and helping out on AK in addition to our regular contests and radio show games. Four of the list below are monthly occurrences, while one is a bonus to people who recruit and the other is a special present for our members on their birthday. Each one has their own sets of criteria and prizes listed under their header.[Recruiting][MotM and SotM]As the admin, this category is the most important to me. People nominated for MotM are people who are helpful, whether in regards to helping new members or staff by providing feed back and ideas, they are also active and participate without being forced or warned to keep up with their posting, and perhaps most importantly, people who are nominated for MotM should display a good temperament even when faced with confrontation and problems with other members.[CotM]
In order to keep this award Members-Only, there is now an additional Staff Member of the Month award. Much like the MotM, the SotM is awarded to the Staff Member deemed most helpful, easy to get along with, and doing a stand-up job of making Akatokiyami running smoothly, in addition to everything that the Member of the Month strives to be.
Anyone can nominate a person (or more!) for MotM or SotM via PM to the admin by the end of each month. You must include why you think this person fits the criteria and any specifications for why you're nominating them for that month in particular. Once all the nominations are in, staff will vote on the nominees based on the reasons the person who nominated them gave and what the staff knows. All members and staff are eligible to be nominated . A person cannot be nominated again if they won the month before. A Staff Member nominated is automatically nominated in the Staff of the Month category, so a second, staff-member-only nomination is not necessary.
The person who wins MotM or SotM may choose one of the following: a custom title, a new name smear, or a custom title smear.Character of the Month is akin to a popularity contest and as such is voted on by the board as a whole, however, anyone being nominated must meet at least one of the following two criteria: They must provide RP related activity by either frequently starting, joining, or running threads that are engaging; or they must have done something within the month that can be considered big or important so that it has an effect on RP as a whole rather than just standard threads. In addition to these two criteria, there is a third one that anyone nominated for CotM must meet -- they must stay in character. People RPing outside their personalities and the like won't be added to the voting list. Anyone can be nominated for CotM including staff as long as nominations are sent in via PM to the admin by the end of each month. A person cannot be nominated again if they won the month before.[WotM or PotM]
The person who wins CotM may pick one of the following: 10 RP or 20 Gold, or 5 RP and 10 Gold. In the event that there are many nominees, there is a bonus CotM winner: one Male character and one Female character.Writer of the Month is a special category we have in place to recognize the gifted writers on AK who raise our RP standards just by posting well written interactions and the like. There are three points of reference used when deciding who the WotM is: their writing must be done well, meaning proper grammar, punctuation, and word usage on a consistent basis; the posts, even if they are about trivial matters, should be engaging to read; and finally, their writing must show effort, meaning they shouldn't be short choppy posts. Because comparisons between writing styles can be tricky, WotM is decided on by the staff.
Everyone is eligible for this title and anyone can nominate a person as long as they send in their nominee via PM to the admin by the end of each month. A person cannot be nominated again if they won the month before. Additionally, as this award represents the best of what we have to offer, the winner of the WotM may also be eligible for one of the member-based awards, such as MotM or SotM.
In the event that there is no clear-cut winner for the award, or if there are many nominations, a secondary award for the month may occur in the form of Poster of the Month. To be eligible for PotM, the person must have been nominated for WotM, but for whatever reason, didn't make the cut or failed to meet one of the three requirements. While akin to an honorable mention, this person is still recognized for an outstanding effort or a few quality posts, but lacks the overall consistency the WotM award embodies.
The person who wins WotM may pick one of the following: custom title, title smear, or 5 RP and 10 Gold, provided that he did not win any other award, in which case he forfeits his chance for additional RP and Gold.
The person who wins PotM may pick one of the following: a custom title, title smear, or 3 RP and 5 Gold, provided that he did not win any other award, in which case he forfeits his chance for additional RP and Gold.
In addition to the prize, the best post written by the winners that month will be put in the Library thread in the Third Division of Seireitei in a special WotM or PotM section.Any site can always use fresh faces and to encourage our members to reach out and connect to potential new members, we have a small reward system set up for both the recruiter and the new member. The rules for this are fairly simple; it can't be someone who was on AK before and the new member must get a profile passed and get 10 RP posts to their name. Once these criteria are met, the recruiter needs to send a PM to the Admin, who will then confer with the new member. Upon confirmation that they are the person who recruited them, both get 10 RP and 20 Gold for their characters.[Birthdays]We here on AK want to help you celebrate your special day! Unfortunately, we can't send real presents to you all, but we can offer some for your character! How does 5 RP, 10 Gold, and your choice between a small custom item and a small pet sound? Well hopefully good, because that's what we offer to everyone for their birthday. You have a week from your birthday to PM the admin about your presents. Details for a custom pet can be sent in the PM to the admin, but if you are choosing to go for a small, custom item, it needs to be registered in the item registration thread.[Monthly Lottery]A simple game of chance and spamming done on the last seven days of every month! For our lotteries, there will be a special thread set up in the Spam Central board. Everyone will have seven days to post as many times in that thread as they can. The winner is determined by a random number generator; the posts will be counted up, and the RNG will choose of one those, provided it is applicable to the topic. Each thread will have a different starting topic and you can't double post, meaning there must be a post by someone else in between your own. The winner will receive 10 RP and 20 Gold!
