Defining Traits:
The Brolus family were known for the strength of their offspring. Each Brolus would produce one child, a male, who would be exceptionally healthy, with great strength, health, athleticism and intelligence, not to mention beauty, with their tall stature and jet black hair.
The Watson family are known for their crimson hair and, in the males, an abundance of body hair.
History:
Since time immemorial, the Brolus family have lived around the meeting point of the Southpeak and Brittenhollow rivers. They found the marshes there suitable for farming, and the rivers abundant in fish. Life was not great for them, due to their inability to have multiple children to help work the land, though each son would prove himself to be a capable boy and man. But because they were a small family, a family tradition, a rite of passage into adulthood arose, where upon reaching fifteen, a Brolus would sail one of the three rivers until they found themselves a bride, then return home with their wife. Sometimes they would have traditional crafts their mothers had made them. This caused some interest in the towns they went to. Eventually one enterprising Brolus, by the name of Marcel decided to sell some of the crafts his mother had made. This brought a quick influx of money into the family.
More trips were made, and so the Brolus family established trading partners in Bulrun, Southpeak and Brittenhollow, as the goods they offered expanded from mere crafts to items each town needed, such as lumber or ore. After a time, it was decided by Solomon Brolus to hire an employee to help in the shipping of goods. This man, Hershel Pecora, was but the first in the Brolus trading company.
More time passed, and with their wealth, they hired more and more people. In time, travellers came to them to see what they had available for sale. This continued, until Three-Forks became what it is today, a major trading hub. The Brolus family gradually moved from farmers, to traders, to rulers of the town, receiving income from taxation. In time, a toll was placed upon ships wishing to travel the rivers, further increasing their revenues.
During the time of Snowclaw's rule over the kingdom, a criminal element appeared in Three-Forks, as a black market arose in the town, as some engaged in gambling and money laundering. Neither Nigel Brolus, nor his son, Istrius, were able to stamp it out, and so Istrius was only too glad to join the war effort, going off to battle shortly after marrying. Sadly, lady Jantus was kidnapped in 1965 and was never seen again, and lord Istrius was killed in battle seven years later, ending the line of Brolus.
Three-Forks then came under the command of the Watson household. There was a certain expectation that the family would take over Istrius's position in the war, and so the son of the new leader, Joshua, went to war for the remaining eight years of conflict. Meanwhile, the remaining family members increased their intervention in the economy, improving social security by paying benefits to the carers of those unable to work; the elderly, the infirm and the young. as well as subsidising education, among other things. This created a substantial bureaucracy in the city, which tracked the movement of goods and coin within the city. This information helped the town guard to crack down on the criminal activity within the city, sending numerous criminals to the city gaol, and driving the rest out of its walls.
The mantle passed down from father to son as both Georg and Fiora passed away, as Joshua took the throne, assisted by his sister, Katrina
