History:
Joshua was born twelve minutes before his sister, Katrina, on a farm near the town of Bulgate. Theirs was a peaceful life. From an early age his father showed them how to work the fields, and their mother taught them things that were far beyond the education typical of a woman of her status. Joshua and Katrina were inseparable. Then the war came.
For a time the Wastons lived in peace, able to effectively ignore the war. That changed in 1972, when news that Georg Watson’s nephew, Istirus Brolus, the Noble of Three-Forks had been killed reached the small farmstead. Georg Watson, being the next in line, packed up his life and family and went to take up the seat.
There was an expectation by the people of Three-Forks that Georg would continue the war. However at this stage he was unfit to fight, so Joshua was sent to command the armies whilst the rest of the family attempted to secure their position as nobility, marking the first time he was separated from them.
Despite having little direct military training prior to taking command of the military of Three-Forks, his mother’s general training made him a surprisingly competent strategist, and a life labouring on the fields a decent warrior, earning him respect from the troops, not because of his sheer abilities, which were above average at best, but how quickly he took up the mantle.
After the war was over, he returned home, and assisted his family in introducing greater central control into the Three-Forks economy, which has promoted efficiency in the town. He continues this path to this day with his sister, now Jarl of Three-Forks, after the passing of his parents.
Name: Joshua Watson
Gender: Male
Age: 45
Rank or Title:
Head of the Noble Watson household
Chairman of Three-Forks
Appearance:
Joshua is a rather hefty man, being large of stature, and large of build, for years upon the farmlands have toughened him up, and years on the fields of battle even more so. Scarring is apparent on his arms and other parts of his body, but none are particularly prominent. His most prominent feature is his hair, having well defined eyebrows and a voluptuous beard. When under a bright light, his hair shines crimson, like the evening sun, a stark contrast to his otherwise sullen appearance.
His common attire when working in the fields is a large worn travelling cloak, its original brown colouration faded, and replaced with the brown of the earth. Whilst in this garb he carries himself in a relaxed manner, satisfied by the comfort of the cloak and the casual garb underneath. He even wears it whilst carrying out business as the Jarl, at least with people who know him, only discarding his tool belt, with numerous detachable pouches, as he sits upon the throne. One notable pouch resembles a large quiver and houses his staff when not in use.
However, when entertaining or being entertained by important dignitaries, or any other more formal occasion, he forces himself into a beige court uniform, the insignia of the house and town upon his left breast, shoulders covered with golden tassels, holding a cape to the garment. The clothes are noticeably worn though. The cape is ragged with holes, the sheen of the buttons and tassels long faded, the colours muted. The only part in good repair is the coat of arms, which he insists is replaced before every foreign engagement. This is because Joshua believes that he is a mere servant of the town, and so it should take precedence over himself, and thus its symbol over his own uniform, and that the town is constantly changing, never being the same as people come and go, with their trades and wares. As such, a different insignia is sewn onto his chest, representative of the constant changes of Three-Forks.
Given his rank and his bulk, Joshua is granted heavy armour, made from top grade steel with the insignia of Three-Forks upon each breast, a hefty chain mail shirt buried underneath. Upon each arm is a thick gauntlet, riveted sabatons upon each foot. His head is covered by a great helm, the top smoothed flat. Despite only wearing this when he knows he is going to battle, Joshua usually carries the gauntlets slung from his belt in case of attack.
Physical: 6'6" 238lb
Constitution: Bulky
Poise: Usually rather casually, but adjustable
Aesthetics: Pale skin, brown eyes, red hair
Standard Attire: Brown cloak, worn over a grey shirt and black trousers, all dirty. Hard-wearing boots.
Battle Attire: Heavy plate, with bulky shoulders. Chain mail underneath. Great Helm.
Formal Attire: Beige court uniform with gold trimming. Family coat of arms upon the left breast.
Personality:
Who can say how Jarl Joshua thinks? One thing is for sure, he, being a Watson, thinks a lot. Like his sister, he is studious, observing before acting. This behaviour has made him cautious, sometimes to a fault, even to the point of being paranoid. This does mean that he sometimes commits brash actions though.
Joshua is not one to go with his heart, but rather his head. And so, every action is deliberate, and calculated. This means that he often exudes a calm temperament, wanting to keep options open, and not burn bridges due to flights of passion. However, he has been known to take rash action from time to time, but each action is measured, even if his conclusion is wrong, for he has a tendency to jump to them.
Joshua does have several “buttons” which do elicit a stronger response. The man has a lot of respect for authority, and thus has much disdain for those who do not know their place. This includes those high up who act in a cavalier fashion and do not act in a way he deems to be right and proper. One other item of note are his views on armed conflict. He is no pacifist, and does accept war as a necessary evil, but he has no time for those who seek to attribute glory to it.
