I should state here that details are still sketchy.
At about 2:20pm today a man was murdered in Woolwich, in SE London.
The UK's civil contingencies committee, COBRA, has been convened, which is unusual for a violent incident. It is being treated as a serious terrorist incident.
I have heard that the man was killed by army barracks, was a soldier and/or was wearing a "Help the Heroes" t-shirt, a charity for ex-servicemen.
I have heard that he was attacked by a machete or a meat cleaver, and that he may have been decapitated.
There were apparently two attackers of Muslim appearance who were seen yelling "Allahu Akbar" at the site.
It appears that they were then shot by police and are currently being treated in hospital.
Various weapons may have been used in this attack, including a firearm.
Sorry that I'm being vague here.
EDIT 1: Some new info in. It has been confirmed that the victim was a member of the armed forces.
Footage has emerged of the attackers standing around and...well I would put it as preaching to people around them, proclaiming to them to remove their governments. They are holding bloodied knives in bloodied hands.

About a week old this, but back in November 2012, a news program suggested that a high senior Conservative was involved in child abuse. Whilst the name was not given, it was quickly worked out that it was Lord McAlpine.
Shortly after it turned out to be a case of mistaken identity. (That is, the allegations were about him, but he wasn't involved in child abuse)
However, McAlpine's name was plastered all over Twitter, and he sued everyone who made such tweets for libel.
One of these people was Sally Bercow, the wife of the current speaker of the House of Commons, who tweeted "Why is Lord McAlpine trending? *innocent face*".
The judge ruled in McAlpine's favour on the 24th of this month.

England have played RoI at football for the first time since 1995, when the match had to be abandoned after rioting broke out.
So far, it appears that there has been no incident.

A community centre has been vandalised.
The centre had that weekend been holding an event broadcasting a music festival in the city to those who couldn't attend.
The centre was coated in anti British and anti Sinn Fein slogans.

Mass amounts crime here that happened last night.
Someone stabbed and killed behind a sketchy pizza place right next to the exit I take everyday to get to school.
A few breaking and enterings.
Something about 27 people, will go further into detail once I find out. >>

A man has been charged with abducting a fifteen year old girl.
Jeremy Forest (30) was a maths teacher when he and a pupil (who is nameless, on account of her age) started a relationship which became sexual. When they feared that this would become public, the girl convinced Mr Forest to run away with her. They were eventually caught in France.
During the trial Mr Forest was seen to say "I love you" to the girl, who mouthed "I'm sorry" in return.

Back in 2009, there was a large scandal about politicians claiming large amounts in expenses. As part of the reforms brought in after this, it was decided that Parliament wouldn't decide their own pay, and it would be decided by an independent body.
However the independent body has just given MPs a 8% pay rise, in a time of government spending cuts, and freezes on pay rises for the rest of the public sector.

Three pieces from Londonderry, here in NI.
An 11 year old has been hit by a petrol bomb in a playpark. The attackers are suspected to be 12 and 13 years old.
A 15 year old has drowned in the river Roe. He went to retrieve a ball from the river when he encountered difficulties and drowned.
On a brighter note, on Wednesday Dr Leah Totton from Londonderry has won the most recent series of the UK version of The Apprentice.

Funny, but since no one else has posted it, I will go ahea and do so
Long story short, and since I don't have the means to make it longer anyway, I believe DOMA has been ruled unconstitutional in California, letting heterosexual familial rights extend to those of different sexuality and gender preferences, thereby making them equal on all grounds.
Hopefully, according to local liberal personalities, this will lead to the snowball effect and allow the rest of the us of a to recognize the rights of the lgbt grouping. Go us.

Currently Northern Ireland is hosting the World Police and Fire Games, basically an olympics for police and fire officers.
Today a football match between the local police force and one from Spain had to be abandoned, as the Spanish kept getting red carded.
I reiterate, the Marbella Police Force, people who for a living uphold law and order were so disruptive that that the match had to be abandoned.

Belleville Ontario Early Wednesday morning there was an attempted suicide where a man stepped out in front of a train, however he stepped out a little late and was simply 'sideswiped' by the freight train. He suffered some pretty bad injuries but failed in his attempt to kill himself. After suffering said injuries he walked to the corner store and asked the clerk to call 911.
This happened just outside my work place o.o;

Sir David Frost has died of a heart attack.
He was probably most famous for his 1977 interviews with Richard Nixon, which were the basis of the 2006 film Frost/Nixon.

This is certainly not local, but I would like to attempt to pay some tribute to Hiroshi Yamauchi, the president of Nintendo from 1949-2002. As most of you will know, he died yesterday of pneumonia, aged 85.
He was the one who brought Nintendo into the video game business, the one who took their ventures west. Sure, he wasn't perfect, but we owe him and indeed Nintendo a lot.
Under his tenure he got the late Gunpei Yokoi involved in hardware, making some of their earlier toys and the legendary Game & Watch and Game Boy. He hired Shigeru Miyamoto.
Under him we saw the beginning of the Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Star Fox, Kirby and Pokemon franchises. We saw such classics as Ocarina of Time, Super Mario World and Super Metroid.
I know this is an anime themed RP, but would Bleach and indeed any piece of Japanese culture have taken hold in the west if it weren't for Nintendo? I may be speaking tripe here, but I think it is fair to say that Nintendo has had great influence over all our lives.
So rest in peace, Yamauchi-san. And thank-you.

One of the six was a friend and co-worker.

A man has managed to land a plane safely after the pilot collapsed at the controls.
John Widley, aged 77, was the sole passenger upon the Cessna 172 and despite having no prior flight experience, he was able to land the aircraft whilst being talked through the process by two instructors.
Sadly the pilot has since passed away.
