Mai clutched the wrinkled parchment tightly in her hand as she strode down the darkened path, acutely aware of the oppressive silence that pressed against her on all sides. She was alone, as instructed by the letter -- Yashimaru had received one as well, but he had also drawn the short straw for the night shift and was unable to attend with her (although he spoke highly of the experience and encouraged her to go) -- and felt a pang in her heart at the absence of her lupine companion, Fenris. But the letter had specified that she come alone or with another invitee, and Fenris had not received one.
The instructions were very detailed, telling her to make her way to a clearing some distance inside of the Second District of the Rukongai. It indicated that she would be safe, as patrols had been increased in light of recent events, and that no harm would befall her as she approached. She brought her zanpakutou with her anyway, just to feel safer in the dark forest in the middle of the night. Firelight twinkled in the distance, also as indicated after a certain length of time had passed, and as she stepped into the clearing, she struggled to contain a gasp of surprise.
In all her years of spying on her father's private meetings, she had never imagined that she'd ever witness the travelling trope he often spoke of; they used wagons to travel about, six of them, and caused some degree of trouble wherever they went. As nomads, they travelled through the wasted fourth district and into the wastelands, sometimes hiding out in the forests. And sometimes, she recalled vaguely, they put on festivals, some variant on older Rukon customs that she did not understand.
This must have been one of them, she thought as she approached the bonfire, and she had been one of the few selected to attended -- a cultural gesture of goodwill? She was unsure, and took to looking around to see if she could garner a hint while she waited. The wagons were colorful, though the majority of the scenery was tinted orange from the firelight, well-worn and well-used. Each attached to a team of the largest, mangiest horses she'd ever seen, but for the moment, they were at rest and on a line off in the distance, as though not to crowd the fire. Mai turned to look the way she had come, missing the pair of eyes glinting at her from the shadows.
Eventually, others started meandering in -- she had been early -- and she sighed with relief when the second arrived. The group, as instructed by similar letter, was sent to stand on the south side of the fire. There, she waited, arms wrapped around her chest as she shivered in the moonlight, nervous. She hadn't thought to bring a jacket.

Sengoku trudged through the forest as, for the second time of the day, he found himself inexplicably lost. He had roamed these forests so often in his life that he should have known them like the back of his hands! Instead he was stumbling about in the fading light looking for a clearing. Finally, he caught a glimpse of a smoke plume through a gap int he trees; Deciding that he had no better ideas as to which direction to go, he made off in the direction of the rising grey smoke. He was dressed in his usual attire, with his axe belted onto his hip (after all, no Axe, no Sengoku!), but he still felt uneasy. Everything about this whole thing seemed too suspicious for his liking.
The invitation had been delivered by a child, obviously hired on the fly, and the cheeky little imp had even demanded a tip! Well, he got one, because Sengoku wasn't the miserly sort, so the boy lucked out. No signature, no indication of who was inviting him, or exactly what he was being invited to: just directions and a time. He'd felt bad about leaving Haiiro behind. Having the big dog roaming around him was becoming a habit. Knowing that he would have an early warning in the event of an ambush had made him somewhat dependent on having the pooch around.
Finally, he made it to the clearing, pushing his way through the bushes and picking leaves out of his hair. "Grah, finally!" He spotted the wagons and the bonfire, dusted himself off, and then surveyed the surroundings. It didn't seem like many others had arrived, all he saw was a slightly framed young woman who, if the hair color and posture were any indicator, was likely related to the Soutaicho. Not interested in her, he settled for examining the wagons while he waited for something to happen.

It had been an exciting day yet busy day for Biru. Having performed SCIENCE on a few pumpkins (followed by some running and screaming when they came to life), Biru was pleased to find that his pumpkin pie making device wasn't a complete disaster. Although it certainly did have a few flaws that would have to be fixed. But that would be for another day. For tonight, instead of pulling his usual all-nighter, Biru had found himself the recipient of a mysterious letter that had told him to come alone into a secluded area of the woods.
Having found nothing at all suspicious about this invitation from a mystery person into an area where there would be little to no witnesses in the middle of the night, Biru had brought his soul bound item (along with a few tools and some snacks) just in case there was an opportunity to do some SCIENCE. After all it wasn't every day that someone would lure you into the woods with a mysterious unsigned letter.
Eventually making it to the meeting place after a few detours so he could make some observations on some of the plant life that he encountered, Biru saw that he wasn't alone. Noticing a shinigami and Sengoku the barkeeper of the Notched Axe, Biru smiled and waved at the two of them. "Good evening you two. How are the both of you doing?"

Miroku looked at the small note he had been given, well, that someone gave to the people at his house. He had just recently gotten done helping the farmers with harvesting and planting a lot of pumpkins in the fields and harvesting apples for money. The people at the home encouraged Miroku to see what it was about, as there was a guaranteed safety attached to the note, so there was no harm of going and seeing what awaited him.
Navigating the second district was easy enough for Miroku, having been in the Rukongai's third district most of his life, he'd often gone into the second to help others, and usually took it to go back home. It was absolutely a secluded area though, as even Miroku didn't recognize it. Stumbling though branches and bushes, Miroku exited tumbling through a bush into an area with wagons and a bonfire. Getting up and dusting himself off, he straightened his jacket before joining the little group
Looking around, he only person he recognized was Mai, although the last time they met she was...wearing something a bit different. He nodded at her, noticing the hair and tattoo on her eyes, the two things he remembered about her, before seeing the other two attendee's, looking to be Rukon Citizens by the lack of shinigami garbs. Miroku merely walked up to the bonfire and put his hands in front of it, charms from his bracelet jingling slightly as he started to warm up again.

They were back. He knew of the travellers. Though genealogy was not his strong suit, they were probably related somehow. They spoke with the same accent his family did, and their appearance was similar, as were some of their traditional dishes. But just because they were probably family did not mean he had to like them.
The group had no care for social norms or the like, frequently engaging in drunken shenanigans, unaccustomed to the actions of normal civilisation. And the Rukongai was hardly high class either. Even their relatively small numbers caused issues, with their propensity to start fights, or be found wandering the streets, drunkenly chanting their old songs. That is, when they were not throwing up or urinating in them, though sometimes they did both. The group had felt his staff on occasion...
He was somewhat surprised to receive an invite to their latest trip. Though he had no reason to believe that they knew who he was. Still, he would go to keep an eye on things.
And that is why he was there. He had come not to worship Caesar, but to bury him. Or to whack him with a big stick if he got out of line.
He stood slightly further out from the fire than the rest, leaning on his staff, his thick cloak giving him some greater warmth than the others.

Kurai and Uddo were just about to return to the Wastelands when some mysterious figure came upon the two and handed them some odd paper. Thankfully, Kurai had grasped what some of the words had meant, due to Yoshiya teaching her the letters. The woodpecker, perched on her head, let out a squawk, looking down at the ticket he held within his clawed toes, "Should we go, Kurai-sama? This one hopes there's food, this one is really wanting some fat juicy beetles." Kurai simply answered with a roll of her eyes, knowing that the bird couldn't see her expression, and doubled back to the second, following the directions to the giant bonfire. Because she hadn't even left the third, she still had the bandages over her face, covering the features of hollowness.
"Uddo." The bird's beady eyes looked passed the ticket in his toes and down at the scalp of the child-like arrancar. "Yes Kurai-sama?" Silence was held between the two for a few steps before the child finally answered. "You are not allowed to say a single word while still in the second, or Rukongai. There will most likely be citizens that have been asked to go whatever this is. You may be able to pass as a regular bird." The bird hunkered down onto her head, curling the foot with the ticket under his body, "Yes Kurai-sama. This one will be silent."
"Good. We're here. And it looks like I was right." Kurai stood within the shadows of the caravans, tiny hand moving behind her back to touch the hilt of her zanpakuto as she eyed the figures by the fire, making sure it was still in her belt. Satisfied that it was, her persona changed into that of a small, frightened little girl before stepping out of the shadows, the bird silent as it kept a close eye on their surroundings.

Party time! Woo! It was time to celebrate! She had heard legends of the Rukon festivals AND SHE HAD GOTTEN AN INVITE! She was going to go there and have lots of fun! But even as she trudged through the forest, she looked longingly to the trees overhead. A year ago she wouldn't be walking on the ground, she would be up there, flying through the air, swinging from tree to tree, a venerable monkey of a creature. But what was done was done. She wasn't going to let this get her down.
No!
The young girl clenched her fists tight, giving them a quick shake.
She wouldn't get herself down, this would inspire her to continue her training, so one day she could reclaim her rightful place above the streets!
Yumi came to the fire, seeing a varied group of people, mostly Rukons, but also the Soutaichou's daughter. She plonked down by the fire, enjoying the warmth, nodding greeting to them all.
"Hey guys! What's up?"

This was a night, oh what a beautiful night~ Actually it wasn't really, was a bit tid nipply. Or uh, chilly rather. So much so that Malik really was regretting dressing up for the occasion. How was he dressed up you may ask? Well his usual braided hair was let down, flowing long and free well past his buttocks, his cloak of a haori swapped out for a one armed one, with a layer of blue inside it. The rest of his uniform was pretty much the same as a standard, and the lack of his bladed arm guards would easily be spotted as well, along with his belt which too was a more traditional sash. The dual zanpakuto was also missing, swapped out for a red shirasaya instead of the two black. Something was amiss for sure! He was Malik, but not their Malik?! What madness was this?!
His un-scarred hand (miracles of modern medicine. Dr. Crusher has some mad skills, yo) lifted the parchment before his eyes again and he frowned. "South." He glanced up at the stars, spotted the one he had been using as a marker and then looked back down on the fire he and his companion were approaching. "Well, it would seem we're here." He slipped the invite into his robes and then placed a hand upon the hand of the one which was looped about his other arm.
"How're you fairing in this chill, my lady?" He asked, turning his hazel eyes toward her, the glow of the nearing flames appeared to make them shine a dull gold colour.

Being out at night was not the best for Chishio. She was terribly afraid of the dark. It's where all the creepy-crawlies liked to dwell and pop out and eat your face off. Why Chishio thought they'd only eat the face was beyond comprehension, but it still scared bejesus out of her. She clung tightly to the arm of her traveling companion, eyes shifting from left to right, searching for any signs of the creepies.
Her fingers dug into the cloth of his shihakusho with each snap or crackle she heard. Her heart was up in her throat, beating out a tempo that made her wonder how her companion couldn't hear it. Oh, how Chishio hated the woods. Especially at night.
And then, there was the glow of the warm, cozy bonfire. It took every fiber of her being not to pick up her pace, trying her best to ignore the fear that lurked around the edge of the shadows. Please, please, please, let this really be the place.
As to the question directed to her, with the coming of fall, Chishio had changed from her usual showy outfit to one with more substance. She still wore the one-sided top of her uniform and skirt, but underneath, she had a dark, skin tight fabric that worked well enough to keep the worst of the cold away. If anything was cold, it was her nose, fingers, and toes. "I'm doing better than I would if I didn't change. Let's just hope this thing we're invited too doesn't have things jump out at us. I don't think I could handle that."
Lucky duck, Azoth, for not receiving one of these stupid tickets.

Clumsily trudging in the forest, the light fading with each passing minute, Ume found it rather difficult to continue reading the letter. Body rather than mind, allows her to progress along the thick, dense flora. Having read the note prior, she vaguely recalled the gist of things; knowing that once the clearing came into view, she would reach her destination. If only, if only, her sense of direction wasn't phony!
Pumpkin-orange eyes survey the landscape in search of any landmarks that could make her journey easier, although directions enough would enable her to reach the zone... well, surely it would? The wind as her guide - in reality, she asked a few townsfolk of the Rukongai in the first district - Ume was ultimately in shock to discover the clearing up ahead and the firelight in the distance. Even voices were audible up ahead, some distinct and familiar. Were others invited to this so-called spectacular, too? Posed with questions that Ume was incapable of answering, she surfaced from the foliage with a large step out into the clearing, processing the sight around her: wagons of all sorts of colors and sizes, not to mention the few guests idly standing about in the plain. She noticed a few, mainly her shinigami counterparts, but some Rukongai citizens were familiar by face. One in particular, she knew, waving to her friend, the owner of the Notched Axe. Coming to the decision of approaching him, she did just that; sauntering over to her Rukongai pal with a curious, but confused face. She'd ask softly, "You were invited, too?" Ume exhales with a soft sigh, voice slightly distraught. One could never be too careful.
Thankfully, weather was of no issue. Adorned in a top with baggy sleeves that stopped at her elbow and a hood, the color orange and black, with a tight-fitting black 'under-armor' fabric reaching to her wrists, up along the bridge of her nose and her lower abdomen, including her usual black shinigami sweatpants and boots that provide support and stop below the knee, Ume was sporting comfort and attire for free-range mobility. Warmth captured within her frame for now, she focused on glancing around to see what might possibly happen next.
"What is this...?" She inquires aloud, head tilted as she tries to inspect the content of these wagons from a safe, secure distance. Standing juxtaposition of Sengoku, her violet-plum tresses would dance in the wind, strands fluttering in the air as the gust lingered.

It would seem the manly Taicho of the 5th division was invited out, Slightly hyped up on the mood he didn't care about changing anything about his looks, his uniform was the same with his captains jacket over his manly tanned skin. His hair was also out of sink showing he had a busy day of training and beating people up or maybe the one getting beat up. Sliding his sword into his left side of his sash he mad his was out to where this invite had told him to go.
While on the trip he hummed lowly enjoying the cold wind touching his manly body he smiled as he started to hear people talking and the roar of a fire. Not taking much more notice of anything else but the old taicho of the fifth division the soutaicho and the young lady who gave him a pounding. He smiled at all three of them and slowly walked over to Chishio.
"Good evening Chishio-chan and Tanaka-Soutaicho."
He bowed his head slightly looking around to see if he seen anyone else he may notice, his eyes then slightly widened when he noticed someone else in the crowd. He was slightly lost for words, why was she here.
Oh the night was the best she was given a invite to go somewhere and yes..maybe this was the day when he was Azoth giving her notice and showing how much he loved her. She started to laugh lowly showing how happy she was to see the man of her dreams slowly she began to shake her upper body in joy. Oh she couldn't wait to see the man of her dreams. So it was best to get ready, quickly she put her hair in a pony tail allowing her face to be fully shown. She quickly made sure her uniform was perfect in all matter. Sliding her sword into the back of her sash she let out a low breath. She wasn't to sure how things where going to go and what this invite was truly all about.
Quickly running off she made her way to the area in no time, letting out panting of how fast she ran there her blue eyes scanned the air. But...he..wasn't there. Her eyes slightly began to water as she looked around more. Her head snapping back and fourth looking at everyone. But there was no Azoth..there was a young girl who looked happy and near her...why the hell was her brother here. Her eyes narrowed as she looked at Chishio and slowly muttered under her breath.
"Love...rival"

"Sector B37, clear." The thought was processed and stored silently in the vast fathoms of her mind as she walked towards her destination. A strange parchment, delivered to a number of Shinigami including herself? She could initially see no relation between those invited, no logic to their choices. Intelligence had also revealed that a number of Rukon Citizens had also revealed these invites, that was understandable. What was of interest was a report stating that there had been a sighting of persons unknown giving similar documentation to Hollow. Though this tip came from a Rukon asset, not a Shinigami.
She had managed to obtain a report listing individuals who had received such invitations. Sadly, it was limited to her own people. Twelve names were on it, including her own. The variety was interesting, all the way up from the Soutaichou, to Konno-san, an unseated courier. Both the current and the previous Taichou of the Fifth had been invited, as had Hitoshi-san of the Second but as far as she was aware, their counterpart in the Third division had not. Of course, she had to concede, there may be others who she wasn't aware of, and those who had received an invite may not have deigned to attend.
Regardless, Kabelja had pulled each of their files, studying them intently. She would not go into this mission unarmed, both figuratively and literally. She had learned from her last mission, and came this time in uniform, blade by her hip, no fancy hat and dress this time around. Yumi had been rather...insistent on explaining her mistakes to her.

"Bah, those kids...first the wife, now the kids. A dad's work is never done."
Sikes lumbered through the second district, looking for this clearing where he would find the encampment.
"Is it just me or did these daft gypsies intentionally pick the most dense, most out of the way patch of land to make camp?
He continued his internal grumblings as he trudged through the darkness. Even though the kids were getting a little older now, they still adored their father, and pestered him for stories. And he was running out of stories.
When the invite came through, it was a godsend for the beleaguered landlord. The group were known for their obscure traditions, they must know a few good stories, and he could pick them up and share them with the littlepon. Beezer!
Finally, after much stomping about, he found it. He appeared to be rather late, there was already a sizeable party gathered by the fire, some more appropriately dressed than others. The soutaichou's daughter did seem to be shivering in the cold. He was glad that he had deigned to put on a navy jumper over his shirt this night.
The man looked around at the rest of the party. In terms of his fellow Rukons he spotted Sengoku of the tavern, along with a kid he knew to do some cleaning, and that strange one who kept blowing things up. One of his tennants, Yoshiya, was also there with his daughter, who seemed to have a muckle bird perched on her head.
As for Shinigami, there was the aforementioned young Tanaka, as well as the elder Tanaka, who also had a bird with him, but of a totally different sort. He also recognised both former Taichou Tachibana and current Taichou Techimaru. As for the two red haired women...he had no idea who they were. Both seemed a little bulky, one with muscles and the other, the one looking so prim and proper, her hair tied up in a bun...he couldn't quite tell... Was she wearing something additional under her uniform? It was probable given the cold weather.
There was one other Shinigami, one also in uniform, but younger than the rest who seemed to be...exercising by the fire? He hadn't a clue. He sighed, and wandered over to the one person he really knew, a certain Rukon in an old familiar cloak, standing out from the group a bit.
"Typical of him."
"Evening Yoshiya. Pleasant evening tonight."

Always fashionable to come late to a party, was it not? Well, he wasn’t quite sure himself...he usually liked to come soon and leave last. Alas, sometimes the lie of the Taicho had you more busy than usual. He saw some members of the Division chatter about mysterious invitations, Mai and Konayashi being amongst them. He kept silent about the fact he also received the invite, though he was somewhat sure people knew about it. He just didn’t want to seem he was in a hurry. He made sure everything was right in the Division, applied some necessary healing if necessary, before preparing for the trip.
After work he took some time to prepare, mainly to refresh himself from a hard day of work. Leaving his Taicho Haori at home, he would done one colored in a light shade of red. which moved down only to his waistline, but also covered his chest. Besides that his attire reminded for the most part the same, though he decided after a bit of deliberation to leave his Zanpakuto behind. While it was a danger seeing how he would be trekking into the woods, patrols were heavier. And besides, the blade was not quite his ante.
As he moved out of the city and towards the deep wood, he reminiscent a bit about the stories of this mysterious caravan. He heard his farther speak of it a few times, and heard some rumblings through his life, but never actually seen it. Though he probably treated some people who get to entranced in the festivities...He was quite curious as to what was waiting for him there. Pushing through the thick forest, he would see a dim light in the distance, which soon metalized itself into the clearing which he was invited to.
As he suspected, quite a lot of people had showed up already. Stepping through to the South, where he was designated to spend the night, he nodded to the grew people he recalled with a soft smile, though he wasn’t sure how well they would notice him in the lights of the fire's. Finally he would reach the other Shinigami, some of which he was quite familiar with by now. Smiling brightly at towards them all he said “Sorry for taking my time friends. Even when not dealing with a huge influx of patients, the end of the day can get hectic…did I miss anything important?”

One by one, the others started to arrive. Mai recognized some of them, responding in varying degrees stiffness; the first ignored her, and she responded the same, rubbing her arms to prevent the chill from seeping into her bones. The second asked her how she was doing, and she shrugged, but before she could answer, the rest started arriving in droves. As the last approached, her beloved captain, she slipped to his side as though a shadow, thankful to find someone as solitary as she was to help her through the night -- he was her only friend here, and she felt far too old to be clinging to her father still.
The group did not have long to sit idle, as the wagon nearest to them opened up at a silent chime of a clock -- midnight -- and a short, bandy-legged man stepped out. He was as tall as a child, made only shorter due to the outward-bowing of his legs. He wore a pointed hat, dark in color and only visible due to the bright colors of the wagon he came out from, and bells danced from the tips of the tails of his coat. Jingling and Jangling, he approached those who had gathered, a smile as wide as his legs. He climbed upon a stump so that he overlooked them all, and despite all the attention cast upon him from his noisemakers, he cleared his voice with a rather loud and uncouth, "Ahem!"
With all eyes on him now, or near enough, he began a song and dance, regaling the group with his impressive acrobatics and dulcet tones that none of them could really understand -- it sounded lovely, to be sure, but what warnings he presented to the group were lost in translation. After a glorious flourish to finish, the man ducked into a tight bow and spoke in the common tongue: "Beware aw ye 'oo ahnter 'ere! Foul beasties o'might-n-magic fill 'ese-here dark woolans, each wahn wif a deep ankerin' ferta flesh on yer young-n-sprighy bones! Woncha chalk on troo in groupins o'two-ter-three, but duncha chalk offfada paf laid aahhht for ye -- Ah dan wanna find yer bits and pieces in the mornin'!" With that, he spun around and led the group to the first of the wagons, hastily encouraging them onward with his gleeful chuckle. He stopped them at the gate, patiently waiting for them to arrange themselves into their groupings, smiling thickly all the while.

Groupings? It appeared that in order to continue with her investigations, agent double one nine would have to ally herself with at least one other of the party assembled. The choice was obvious, she would ally with her brother.
Though they had not seen each other for many years, they still would have much more synergy. Yumi, as great a messenger she was, was wounded but more importantly they had never trained together. They had not fought side by side. Kabelja did not know how she fought. Her tells, her nuances. They did not have the compatibility she had with her brother, whom she was raised with.
She strode up to her brother, and spoke the first words that she had said to him in nine hundred and sixty four years.
"Analysis dictates that we would be the best pairing for each other, if a challenge was posed to us."
Yumi clapped and cheered as the man did his song and dance. Oh, how she wished she could dance with him. Her expertise had never been acrobatics, but before, before she could perform each individual element at least. But that was the past. A recent past, to be sure, but still a past.
But when he was done a dark thought dawned upon her young mind.
"Uh-oh. I came alone! Who am I to team up with?"
Even her closest superior seemed to be attempting to group with a number of older gentlemen. This was a dilemma. Who was the next most likely? Probably that grey man...
"Hey there!" Yumi approached Miroku with a friendly tone in her voice. "I'm kinda without a partner. Mind if I go with you?" Her voice did carry an inquiring tone to it. She would be OK if rejected. Well, OK emotionally. She'd still need to find a partner.

Sikes stood there as instructions were given. Though Yoshiya was somewhat more well-spoken than the jester, years of being exposed to his accent made him able to understand the common tongue...somewhat. He did gather that they needed to be in groups however.
He turned to his tenant. "Hey, Yoshiya. How about you and I go together? Have a bit of a lad's night here."
Though just after he spoke, the Shinigami with an extra under-layer approached Yoshiya.
"I didn't know you had a bird. And a Shinigami as well, I didn't think you'd go with one of them. But she's a fair catch."
He chuckled as he spoke, nudging Yoshiya, muttering softly to him, so as Kabelja wouldn't hear him, his words complete well before her arrival.
"Evening, Mr Sikes. Yes, the weather is fair tonight."
Yoshiya stood, bundled up against the cold and gazed heavenward. The stars were visible though breaks in the foliage, glistening bright in the ebony sky. There was something poetic, staring at something so far away. He didn't know what, but it was there.
And then the jester came out. As he spoke, a verse ran through Yoshiya's mind. A remnant from his culture, long ago.
But now was not the time for reminiscing, as a sharp elbow dug into his side, taking him out of his melancholy.
"Break it off, you daft gowk, that's my sister."
He sighed. His landlord may have been an adult, but he was still rather childish at times.
Yoshiya stood as Kabelja delivered her words.
"Straight and to the point as usual. Good to see you too sis..."
"Thanks for the offer, both of you, but I best keep an eye on my daughter." He gestured towards the young girl standing there with a bird on her head. "Tell ya what, you two go together. If Kurai doesn't want her old man, then I'll join you and we'll be a three. Kabelja, if I end up with Kurai, Sikes should be compatable. If worst comes to worst, then combat wise Sikes here is type G-7. Be careful, these travellers have a habit of being somewhat rowdy. It shouldn't be anything that you can't handle solo, but keep alert."
"Hey, Kurai, wanna go with your daddy?"

It seemed he came just in time not to miss anything of significant importance, as the actual festivity began soon after he came. Still he noticed Mai being there amongst the gather Shinigami, smiling brightly at the young Tanaka. Even though they've seen each other throughout the day, it was always good to see a familiar face. And he did hope she also enjoyed seeing him as she moved a bit closer...
But as mentioned before, the actual festivity began soon after. A short and stout male came out before the crowd, dressed in a rather eye catching garb, starting to dance and sing in ways he never really saw before. It was an impressive sight, especially his dance, though the novelty of his speech also made the presentation feel special. After that he spoke to them in a more understandable way, though he still had a bit of trouble. But the main point was clear: It was dangerous to go alone.
With a soft smile he would turn to the other medic in the crowd, as he said "I'd be honored to keep you company through the night Mai, assuming you’re not tired of seeing you Taicho for most of the day" chuckling slightly before rising his head to Malik saying "Don’t worry Tanaka-san, I’ll make sure nothing bad happens to you daughter". It felt only right to address her father with him being near to them. After that, he would gently offer his arm to the young Tanaka, bowing his head before her gently. He was looking to the evening more with every minute.

Sengoku grinned brawdly, his night had just improved! Ume was here. As she sidled up alongside him, he reached out with one arm and gave her a brief, but warm hug. "Good to see you, Ume. No idea who invited us, but yeah, I got a ticket too. Haiiro's minding the homestead." He slipped his arm from around her shoulders and joined her by the fire. The heat was inviting, warding off the night's chill. More and more people had showed up, and he waived idly to Watson, noting the odd girl at his side. Since when had Watson had a daughter? Maybe she was just some street urchin he'd picked up, no different from another girl Sengoku had known and cared about. He hoped their story ended better. The brief sadness passed as he returned his attention to Ume and the fire. He was surprised to see how many shinigami had shown up, but didn't mind it. He glanced at the wagons and such, then back to Ume following her question.
"I dunno, " He murmured, shrugging his shoulders. "My Dad never talked about anything like this, but whatever it is, I don't think we're in any danger." He was looking around again when the odd little man popped up, dancing his jig and singing. "Well, ok then..." he dug at his left ear with a finger, raising an eyebrow. "I didn't understand a bit of that, except for pairing up." He wiped his hands on his trousers and then offered his left arm to Ume. "Care to join me for a moonlit stroll?"

Giving a slight sigh as the only response his greeting received was an apathetic shrug from the Shinigami. Standing awkwardly to the side, Biru watched as more people entered the clearing. Not having the faintest idea who any of them were outside of a brown haired shinigami who looked somewhat familiar and the Soutaicho given his rather distinctive appearance, Biru's eyes widened considerably when it dawned on him that the head of the entire shinigami organization had decided to come to a random clearing in the woods for this mystery event. Well not only him but another one of the captains too.
Regaining his composure after a few minutes, Biru began to wonder just how it was that all of them were selected. The fact that they had invited two high profile shinigami leaders, not to mention Sengoku who was a very respected community leader among the Rukons, did seem to be more than just a coincidence. But if that was the case then what common thread linked the rest of them?
Before Biru could ponder (not to mention some wondering) on things, his attention was soon diverted to the strange mans...dance...thing. Catching something about foul monsters (hollows perhaps) and pairing up, Biru looked around at the others. Seeing several of them already forming groups, Biru realized that the only person who he remotely knew at all was Sengoku (which in this case meant that Biru's inventions wouldn't cause explosions in his bar and his axe wouldn't cause fatal wounds in Biru's skull) and that was only because he knew OF Sengoku's reputation (and penchant for putting axes in the faces of things that caused explosions in his general vicinity).
After a few moments of standing around awkwardly, Biru decided that he would just try and see if he could go by himself. Approaching the strange man Biru asked him, "Would it be okay if I just went in by myself?"

A flash of anger rose to Kurai's blood-hued eyes as she saw the man she pretended to have as a father. Her shoulder's would visibly stiffen as well, alerting the bird upon her head that she wasn't happy. The bird, however, kept silent, for that was what he was instructed to do. Maybe she had spotted one of the hollows from their new group? That though made the bird's stomach drop violently. If that was what she saw, then their cover would be blown, even without the birds help. Uddo's feathers puffed out around his form, revealing that he was getting flustered at the thought, noises of different species of birds he had come across leaving his dark beak.
Kurai's tiny hands turned into tiny fists as her eyes moved skyward, a low hiss forced between her teeth at the bird. "Uddo, shut up! We'll be found out for sure if you keep making your weird noises!" Soon after those words were emitted, Yoshiya had moved towards the hollowfied duo, asking the question Kurai did not want to answer.
Her eyes rose up to his, void of that twinkling innocence the Rukon was used to seeing in their crimsony hue. "I don't wanna. Uddo and I will be fine on our own." She felt no remorse as those words dribbled out, not even the turning her back on him. If possible, Yoshiya would think that she was playing the independent card, wanting to go out on her own to prove she was capable on her own.

Miroku turned from the fire to watch more of the people stroll in, before a portly little man strolled out of the wagons and performed a song and dance routine. Humorous, to say the least, Miroku watched while standing by the close fire. As he started towards the wagon, Miroku barely had time to glance around for a partner before a pretty shinigami lady came bounding towards him. Listening to her request...he couldn't see why not. "Sure, I don't mind." he said to her, extending a hand as he made his way to the wagon with the others.

"That would not be an issue." Malik answered dryly, seemingly losing himself in the role he was playing, so much so that his eyes turned grey. "Anything that leaps at us will simply be cut asunder. Fret not." His gaze to flicked down to her again without a hint of human emotion before they turned toward the taller man who addressed him, suddenly there was emotion on his face. Annoyance as a eyebrow arched upward in a slant. "To whom are you referring, sir?" And then the 'host' called for their attention. He turned away from Taisho's face, which wasn't all that hard for him to be honest, and listened seemingly bored as he spoke.""Beware aw ye 'oo ahnter 'ere! Foul beasties o'might-n-magic fill 'ese-here dark woolans, each wahn wif a deep ankerin' ferta flesh on yer young-n-sprighy bones! Woncha chalk on troo in groupins o'two-ter-three, but duncha chalk offfada paf laid aahhht for ye -- Ah dan wanna find yer bits and pieces in the mornin'!" "Let us get this farce over with.." And with that, he escorted his companion for the evening toward the first of the carriages.

Taisho's face slightly dropped how Tanaka-sama spoke to him, he blinked slightly as he heard the man announcement something he quickly turned and took notice of the little dance and what he was saying while doing it. Then after he made a comment about groups. Taisho crossed his arms and slightly leaned back on the back of his feet wondering who he would pair him self up with. Perhaps his former taicho, slowly walking over to Ume he smiled at her and bowed his head.
"Ume-sama. Perhaps we could form a good team, What do you say?" A faint smile came over Taisho's face as he was slightly not sure what the hell was going on. There was a lot of people here. Perhaps the groupings had to be on a larger scale.
Lira's eyes narrowed as she listened to the little creaute talk about things what was going to happen. This creature lied to her. WHERE WAS AZOTH-SAMA. She would have her revenge on this creature. Though she wasn't to sure if it was this creatures idea with picking all these peoples names or it was by luck. However in her mind it was all this fellow's fault. She was blocked from holding on Azoth's arm. Like that woman over there was to the white haired man. The rage was building up in Lira, Her eyes flared slightly in anger. Everyone was paring up even her brother talked to the former taicho of there division.
Lira crossed her arms, she needed no one but Azoth-sama as her partner she would refuse to go with anyone else until her white knight rode up on a horse and brought out his arm asking her to be his wife. Lira then began to vision how that would be. Hearts appeared in her eyes as she slightly started to wave back and fourth thinking of riding on the back of the horse holding onto Azoth-sama from behind. She let out a low breath of joy and started to lightly giggle.
"AZOOOOTH-SAMAAAA!"

Chishio couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching her, even when Taisho came up to her and her gloomy, jerkface of a knight. A cold chill ran down her spin as she nodded to Taisho, clinging, if possible, even tighter to the Soutaicho's arm. "Taisho-Taicho, hello." her eyes flicked this way and that, searching for the source of this creeping fear.
Before she could locate the prying eyes, the tiny dancing man hopped out of one of the flamboyantly decorated caravans and started to do a jig on top of the stump. The words flowing through the man lost all meaning to the Yakanami. Umm... What?
After the song was finished, Chio then being directed to a caravan. At least someone knows what they are doing, even if that someone has transformed into a butt. For now, she'd stick close the her Soutaicho, even pleading to not be separated for fear of no one else keeping her calm in such a situation.

Delicate chuckles of a timid fashion escaped her lips. How could she be so flustered around a dear friend? Sure, hugs were uncommon between the two, but weren't such gestures typical for friends? Over time, the two had grown close; that was apparent enough! It seemed, however, Ume's heart was aflutter. Her cardiac muscle skipped a few beats, eyes jolted widely open as the sudden pull evidently caught her off-guard. An inaudible gasp and reddened cheeks were thankfully obscured by the fabric at her lower visage. Ume was altogether sluggish and reluctant to respond to his warm gesture, mainly lost in the reality of it all; her frame awkwardly motionless and stiff whilst in his grasp. Though, when she snapped back into the present, her arm would snake around his burly physique, their embrace now unconcerted. Her anterior side turned away from the fire, she would notice Taisho's smile, which initiated a simplistic wave from the Ex-Taichou. Her mind reeled with thoughts... why did she never acknowledge this new, undiscovered territory? Her heart must have always knew... maybe?
"You're a true sight for sore eyes yourself, Sengoku," Ume mused inwardly as the two disconnected, head slightly tilted as she admired him from the very corner of her eyes against the lighting and during the contemplative silence. To think Ume was a bashful individual! Her optic orbs ignited whimsically like a copper flame, her being was astute and hypersensitive from his touch, skin faced with tingles and goosebumps. Did this exhilarating rush of emotion stem from the festivities? That was to be unknown and unexpected. Chomping down on her lower lip, Ume swept her gaze toward the unusual man, his dynamic entry no doubtfully bizarre.
"Beware aw ye 'oo ahnter 'ere! Foul beasties o'might-n-magic fill 'ese-here dark woolans, each wahn wif a deep ankerin' ferta flesh on yer young-n-sprighy bones! Woncha chalk on troo in groupins o'two-ter-three, but duncha chalk offfada paf laid aahhht for ye -- Ah dan wanna find yer bits and pieces in the mornin'!"
Attention wandering, Ume reverted her optics back to Sengoku, noticing the icky finger and hand. Mentally cringing, she'd dismiss it with a shake of her head, extending her left hand. "Give me your other hand and you got yourself a deal." Snickering, her lips curved into a smile, greeting Taisho with a rejuvenated and jovial disposition, "Well, if a team of three is acceptable, I don't mind." She flickered a glance to Sengoku for approval, disapproval or merely opinion, awaiting the outcome of this situation once all was settled.

The man clucked his tongue, sounding almost disappointed with the lack of usable teams -- cooperation and family was very important to him and his kin, after all, and some of the independentness he couldn't fathom. He wove through the crowd like a snake, dragging arms this way and that until they lined up in a way he thought was best -- he had been the one to pick and choose, after all, the fortunate ones who received the tickets. Shame not all of them came to play with them.
As the odd man went about rearranging the group, Mai smiled at Harupia as she slid her arm into his. Her hand was cold, but now she did not mind as much as she ordinarily would have. Harupia's jacket was soft, however, and she couldn't help but run her fingers slightly over the fabric; when she realized what she was doing, she blushed slightly, a faint rose blossoming over her pale cheeks, and apologized with a nervous giggle. "S-sorry...I wasn't expecting it to be so soft...." She did not remove her hand from his arm, however, and instead of stepping away, stepped half a step closer. "I would be glad to walk by your side, always." she added quietly, eyes focused on her fingers.
A clapping drew her from her thoughts, which were not focusing on much except the softness of Harupia's clothed arm, and she turned to look at the man. He was done rearranging, it seemed, and quite pleased with himself about it. She didn't see much of anything that had changed, but then again, she wasn't focused much on anything other than Harupia rescuing her from a night of being the awkward third wheel for her father and his...whatever she was.
The man had fixed a right mess as he saw it, jingle-jangles and all; the little girl that did not want to go with her father was positioned next to him in the line -- while she thought she may have been fine on her own, the opposite was true, and the bandy-legged man did not want her death on his conscience. The one who had asked to go alone was met with a disappointed sigh and, since the language was a major barrier for the grouping, instead led along to where Sikes was left alone -- along the way, he grabbed hold of the manly Taisho and brought him too, making the second trio of the night. This had left Kabelja alone, as her brother was assigned to his child, and the very stoic redhead was matched with the other stoic redhead.
"Aightnow, lis'n close: close yer eyes, and dunt think'bout whate'r scares ya most!!" he cackled loudly, setting the seeds for what was to come. In the dark, with nothing but their thoughts to guide them, the one rule they were given was to not think about their fears -- the Game had been lost before it had even begun, and the joy in seeing the terror of the darkness was the ultimate goal for the silly man with the banded legs. When told to not think of chocolate cake, of that delicious, soft sweet texture and taste, the first thing popping into their blessed little brains was a slice of that decadent dessert.
For Mai, it was the darkness itself, her mother fading away into it, her father close behind; before she had stepped into the first wagon at Harupia's side, she was already feeling the flames of panic licking at her heels. Her cold hand blanched and gripped his arm tightly, conveying unto him her apprehension and trust -- they were in this together, now, for better or for worse...and no one had a glass of milk to wash the darkness away. The well-oiled hinges made no sound as the gate opened and closed, bringing each group into utter darkness, where rational thought took the backseat to terror.
Alright, this thread is locked for new participants. I gave an extension, you signed up, and now it's been four days and still no posts - sorry, but you snooze you lose. The rest of you: In case it wasn't clear, I need at least one person in each of the listed groups to list the character's fear in their narration as they enter the wagon; feel free to jostle and bump in the darkness, but leave the boogeymen to me.
Teams: Chishio/Malik Ume/Sengoku Mai/Harupia Kurai/Uddo/Yoshiya Taisho/Sikes/Biru Kabelja/Lira Miroku/Yumi

Having a somewhat confused expression on his face as he was lead by the man, Biru found himself grouped up with a rather large man (who also seemed a a bit familiar now that he thought about it, and a bald person. "I guess we'll be going in a group then." Biru said a bit confusedly to the two.
Perking up when he heard the man's instructions, Biru closed his eyes. "One of you two can take the lead. I'll just follow." Biru said to the pair as he began to think of things that weren't his greatest fear. While this might be challenging given how the man prompted them, Biru's attention span wasn't good enough to actually focus on one of his fears. So Biru found himself thinking about the possible positions of electrons in an atom for different elements instead of one of his many fears such as spiders, the destruction of all of his work, spiders, dying in the cold vacuum of space as he plunged into the open maw of a black hole, getting eaten by alive by a hollow, boredom and getting eaten alive by a spider hollow as all of his work was plunged into the open maw of a black hole in the cold vacuum of space...also spiders (because spiders are really really scary).
As he focused on the soothing challenge of the electron orientations of Argon, Biru would simply follow Sikes and Taisho depending on which of them took the lead.

Sengoku obliged her, noting the behavior she had found distasteful to be the picking at his ear. He'd remember that next time for certain. As she looped her arm through his other, "untainted" side, he noticed another Shinigami approaching. He had been mostly ignoring everyone at the event in favor of his moment with Ume, but he thought maybe he might had seen this one somewhere, maybe at the Battle of the Wall? Ume seemed to know him, and the big fellow wanted to join them, so Sengoku didn't mind. He shrugged and waived the fellow over, grinning. "Sure, it's fine."
The odd little impish fellow was prattling on again, and when he mentioned something about deepest, darkest fears, Sengoku frowned a bit. Now that he actually thought about it, Sengoku didn't know if he really had any fears. He'd always believed that fears were things that were supposed to stop you in your tracks, to rob you of will and power, of reason. He felt that so long as he could fight something, he had no reason to be afraid of it. But what Sengoku didn't know was that he had many fears, fears he had over come before, but fears none the less. For an ultimate fear, it lay deep in Sengoku's mind. He couldn't have known it was there. If Sengoku had ever found himself buried in a coffin, with no room to swing a punch or an axe? Knowing someone else might be in danger? Well...that might just drive him mad.
So, while Sengoku and Ume, and their tag-along-Taishou ascended into the wagon, Sengoku didn't bother not trying to think about his fear. The Wagon though, was a we bit short for his comfort, and a bit compact, and with the darkness and press of other people before and behind him, some small part in his mind whispered
Ancestors Below, wouldn't it be terrifying to be buried a l i v e ?

"Well, looks like I'm with you gu...oh, what? No, she already..."
But it was no use. Yoshiya believed in his daughter, he believed she was capable. After all, she was from the Wastelands, and she had survived. And this was before he had trained her. He knew that the pair would be fine on their own. Ah yes, the pair. He heavily suspected that the bird was a Hollow. He made a note to invite Uddo to breakfast.
"Looks like we're supposed to be together for now. And don't worry, I believe you two would have been fine without me." His voice carried a very sincere tone to it. It was his honest belief. She was a very capable young lady. "Ah, now is as good a time as any." "But where are my manners? It is a pleasure to meet you, Uddo-san." He gave a bow towards the bird. The bow was almost childish, as if entertaining the imagination of a kid, but such a thing was for the outside, for as he met the eyes of the pair, as well as the grin on his face he gave a flurry of his eyebrows, a secret message to communicate his awareness of the creature's true nature.
"Anyway, we best be going, hold close and don't get lost."
With that Yoshiya drew out his staff and shut his eyes, the long rod probing the ground in front of him, feeling his way through like the staff of a blind man. If they were allowed to open their eyes later once they were in darkness, he was confident that his daughter could lead their way, with their thermal vision.
Now, whilst Yoshiya had some control over his mind, at the jester's words one thing came into his mind. A single word, a quick flare which went as soon as it had come. And that word was dogs. Of course, Yoshiya was already living in a nightmare he had created (or so he believed) for himself one thousand five hundred years ago, when he failed to prevent the Great Split. The suffering of the Rukon Citizens weighed heavily on his soul...
So why dogs? Well, animals as a whole were fairly unpredictable, but dogs generally had more energy and ferocity than most other animals, and since they were considered by many as pets, it was generally frowned upon to slay them...
"No worries mate! I'll take good care of yer sister!"
Sikes spun round to properly introduce himself to Yoshiya's sister to find her...missing? No, she hadn't disappeared, she had been guided to the other red head. Though as soon as that had occurred, he was met by two other men, one rather puny, and that chap who apparently did all those strange things (he heard it through the grapevine).
"Yeah, it appears so. What's your name kid? Beirut or something? And you, you must be the new guv'nor! Now..what's your name... Flipping heck, what is it? Grumpy circle or something?" He coughed, trying to change the subject away from his own lapse in memory. "I tell ya wot, either of you two fine gents need a house, come see me, Ebenezer Sikes, landlord. Providing homes to the Rukongai since 784. Say a place down in the Third District, a quaint abode so you can really get to know the people. Could be advantageous for a man in your position, captain. Though if say, a man of discovery needed some investment until he needed a profit, well I guess I could branch out, eh?" He gave Biru a slight nudge at these remarks.
"But I say, we'd best be moving on. I elect that our fine captain should lead this little soirée. Bonne chance!"
He too tried to press out the fear in his mind, but there was always a dread within him. His work was rough, and there was always a fear that someday someone would off him. Or even worse, threaten his family. He cared deeply for them, and the thought of something happening to them, even their father being unable to care for them... He had a small gladness every day he and his family survived another day.
